Is it really any surprise that Lehigh is struggling to put NEC teams away this year? They could have easily lost half of their games last year, but were able to go 10-1 because of experience and knowing how to win from 2010 and 2011.

Fortunately, that winning mentality has led to a couple of wins this season despite a great loss of depth. They lost their QB, a WR to the NFL, top RB, TE, 2 LBs, several DBs, and NT...all of whom had a significant role in the 2011 season besides last year.

True, but they left the league at the 11th hour, scheduled 6 of the 7 remaining NEC teams this year, and still probably doesn't have more than the 40 schollys that they were playing with last season.

For comparison purposes, they are a "NEC team" for this season.

If we finish 6-5/5-6 it should be considered a success. (with a win over the Pussies, of course). I think we should go with McHale/Shafnisky. Get them the experience. From what I saw today plus some insider input, we are looking at a 6-5 or 7-4 year. Almost any team with a running game will trouble us. There's not much rejoicing, at least from the LU contingent thats for sure. More like relief. As a league, you are probably right with the exception of Fordham, who seems to be capable of making some real noise. For LU, past couple of years have been pretty good, beating almost everyone put in front of us, save the teams who smoked us in the playoffs, and were obviously the elite. Thats all you can ask of your kids in the program. And they seem to do it, and we are proud.

Is it any less real or satisfyimg because it isn't in the mighty SoCon? Hardly. Would we rather be sucessful where we are at, or living around .500 like you guys the past few years? Maybe it is the latter...ask ASU and GSU the next few years. Or ask yourself when u maintain the same level of mediocrity despite a watered down SoCon.

It is encouraging to see the progress Fordham has made. They appear to be one of THE BEST in the FCS this season.

In three years, when the rest of the PL has teams comprised of scholarship players, who knows just how good the league will be. Maybe just as good as the CAA.

A 7 point win over a team who has a record of 12-79 since 2006. Congratulations, I guess.

It likely still is, but we PL brethren are happy to measure ourselves against our academic peers (yes, lame as u probably feel that is) as well as THE BEST in the playoffs when earned.

1-1 in the Southern Conference is what the Cadets are.

Isnt that Chuck South's stadium, not VMI?

A 7 point win over a team who has a record of 12-79 since 2006. Congratulations, I guess.

Point is, while the Patriot League isn't great right now, I think the league will be a very competitive and good league in the next few seasons due to scholarships.

A road win in the Southern Conference is a difficult thing to get. Your league right now is on par with the NEC and the Pioneer League. THOSE are your peers.

How the hell do you know how things will shake out in the next several years? Wofford, Furman, The Citadel, Chatt, Samford, et al will still be one of the BEST FCS Conferences in the 'late United States'

Well 98, cant say your wrong about our fnal record but it is not overall lack of talent. solid on O .BB's only lack is arm strength. DL is a disaster,so far.Lbs only lack is experience.2ndary is lkewise disappointing. Safeties OK but so far CBs seem unable to cover anyone. Lack of any consistent QB pressure does not help. A winning record would be a good season. DCs will have a busy week putting that mess into order.

You are right, I dont know. But if u seriously feel the luster will not have faded a bit on the SoCon with the App three-peats and GSU seven flags long gone...u may need the above witch doctor for some type of sanity or reality chant.

Conversely, with some of the remaining SoCon schools like Samford, Wofford, Furman having more than a few actual student athletes on the roster, look out, we PLers may begin to look a whole lot more like you guys than u want to...or, vice versa.

I'd rather measure myself against THE BEST.

Not for nothing, because I hate dick measuring contests, but going back 15 years Lehigh has 5 or so playoff wins and a few more very close calls. Also, many good wins against CAA in regular season and a great W% in that time. What has Citadel done in that time that makes them so superior to Lehigh. You have lost to good teams and hired our former coach. Congrats!!! You can trash us in what will likely be a down year if that makes u feel better.

LU making too many mistakes. They were going right down the field and Fernandez-Soto fumbles...

Two LU turnovers...

MU at ball at own 16...

That was no fumble. Clearly was down. He landed on his rear end and the ball popped up in the air. Horrible call. LU was on the doorstep. smh

OK, my late take on the game.
First, while I think we showed some improvement from last week, we also made a host of mistakes that made this too close for comfort. BB make some poor decisions and we paid dearly. The fumble return for TD and the interception were 10 points handed to MU. I will grant that the cross winds today probably played havoc with both QBs.
Second, I wish I could blame the wind on the missed FGs, but they were just clearly bad hits. Pandy's XP's flew 60 yards, but the FG attempts were bad strikes. It didn't seem like any problems with the hold. Only a freshman, he needs to get his confidence established. Can't let it become mental.
Third, we will have trouble defending against any run oriented team with a huge line. MU's OL out weighed our front three/five by 50-70 lbs/man. Added to that, the two MU backs are pretty good. We started out fairly good, but it seemed we got worn down in the trench as time went on. The LBs did a nice job of filling. BTW, we had a ton of youngsters out there. We may well take some lumps this year, but the future looks very bright. Caslow was all over the place. If he can beef up some, he's going to be a beast in the middle.
We need to run the ball more, because we can. Sherman had a great day, and Farrell should be running at least 10 times a game, too. Couldn't understand us throwing deep to a covered Kurfis late in the game when we need a crucial first down and ignored a wide open Gaul over the middle for 10 yards.
McHale showed he can be a nice change of pace. He can run like Colvin did, but also has a good arm.
Still time to figure out the D. At times, we made some very nice stands today when needed.
Leaks can be a real threat at KR. Another 40 yarder today.
We should have put this game away early today, but allowed MU to be in the game. Callahan helped out late in the game. Up by 4 points with the ball, and gouging huge chunks of rushing yardage, he decides to start passing leading to a huge sack from which MU did not recover. They continue that drive on the ground and score while eating clock, we would not have been able to pull this one out.
Princeton is always a tough game. It will be their first, but they have a lot of tape of us. Should be good one next Saturday.
We're 2-0 and should enjoy tonight, but without improvement, it can be a tough year.

I have no clue why they didn't run more! They could have rushed for 200 plus today. In turn, maybe MU doesn't!

A lot of truth in our not running more contributes to the opposition's ability to run. We score quickly and less possession time leading to much less rest for the defense, as well as more time for the opponent. If they don't have the ball, they can't score.

One thing that Lehigh needs to do us mix up their OOC. It's almost like conference games when you play the same teams over and over. Monmouth, CCSU and Princeton know Lehigh well. I think it's something that gets over looked a bit.

Lehigh folks, no need to panic in my opinion. The defense will only get better as the strengths and weaknesses of the kids are learned by the coaching staff. We are 2-0 and its nice to continue to improve from that position.

The offense can and should develop the running game. Our O-line is good and Sherman/Farrell is a formidable combination of talent.

Receiving corps could be leagues best,

It all will come down to how we stop the run. We stop the run and we win 9 games.

Lots of ifs but pretty accurate. Agree on WRs. D, a question mark. They should keep improving but until they actually do so we are not a 8-9 win team. O will put up lots of yds and pts, can D stand up as we face better competition.

To do so will mean taking some one-game road deals which many coaches are tentative about doing.

Not a problem at Fordham, of course, but much less likely at Bucknell, HC or Georgetown. I think Lehigh would take the opportunity.

Lehigh has played CCSU 3 times in the past 5 seasons (2009, 2012, 2013), and a total of just 4 times since 2001 (13 seasons).

This is Lehigh's 3rd straight year vs. Monmouth, but just the 5th time since 1999 (15 seasons).

Now, on other hand, most recently Princeton is almost an annual game for Lehigh (2006-13, 1998-2003).
