Excellent reads by Jeff Kolpack from the Forum of Fargo in North Dakota and Joe Scalzo of the Youngstown Vindicator.

They both nailed this issue on the head. B1G thinks they are hot ****, which they clearly aren't.

"And yet, this is happening as the Big Ten pressures its teams to drop FCS schools in order to boost their strength of schedule, something that doesn’t seem to be bothering the SEC, which plans to keep scheduling FCS schools because it boosts its strength of schedule with (wait for it) league games."

nice jab on the B10

I know there was a push to get the Big 10 and MAC teams to join an even stronger alliance. This began when Temple was still in the conference. The state of Michigan was the one really pushing it. At one point there was talk of Michigan, yes Michigan, doing 2 for 1's with EMU, WMU and CMU.

Love the two articles. Just to throw my blog posting in this mix, too, which was written when the B1G started the silly ban and has aged remarkably well:

Wow, there's a surprise, Michigan trying to push for in-state schools like the directional Michigans to play them more. xlolx

Never mind that directional schools in Illinois are FCS (SIU, WIU). And in Iowa (UNI). And smaller state scools in B1G territory (NDSU, SDSU, USD, Indiana State, Illinois State).

The word here is fraidy-scared.

With the playoffs starting next season strength of schedule is going to become extremely important in the FBS. This and TV revenue is why the B1G doesnt want to play FCS schools anymore. They are trying to ensure a B1G school gets into the playoffs each year. Its why B1G schools are scheduling more BCS schools then over the last 20 years

also starting in 2016 the B1G is going to 9 conference games so their will only be 3 non conference games a year

More important, even than wins on the field, strength of schedule or TV revenue - is perception. This is something that can't be bought and can be difficult to fix once broken.

Its Delaney. The schools still want to play the games. Lay the blame where it belongs.

Their playoffs only involve 4 teams. Most of these schools are still just shooting for a bowl game.
