UMass is going to win in a competitive game

Did UMass go through some major changes in the off-season? They won one game last year, against a team that also only won a single game.

Maine is always tough.

Yeah they had a good off season as well as a good recruiting class. They still won't be good at FBS level yet but I think they are strong enough to beat Maine.

Towson 45 Holy Cross 27: Towson is simply way too good, HC does avoid complete embarrassment

Delaware 38 Delaware State 13: The Hens up and down opener has not caused me to lose faith

Colgate 33 Albany 27: This is a must win for Colgate and to a lesser extent the PL

Villanova 49 Fordham 38: This has the potential to be a great game. Villanova has just a little more defense...

UMass 17 Maine 14: This is honestly a coin flip imo

W&M 42 Hampton 17: WIU smacked around Hampton, W&M will do the same....

CMU 28 UNH 17: CMU got crushed in the Big House but should have just enough to get by UNH

JMU 34 Akron 21: The Zips are horrendous, Dukes should notch another strike for FCS

NC State 35 Richmond 20: The Spiders aren't quite good enough to take out a respectable FBS opponent

SBU 49 URI 28: SBU is solid, URI, not so much....

I have literally no idea what to expect from UNH this week; offense should be pretty good, as almost everything returns. A horrible defense lost it's four best players and their other returning CB (Chris Houston) is questionable this week with an ankle sprain.

I think they got a lot more athletic, though, and potentially more talented, with the players that have stepped in. Ultimately, though, if their corners still can't cover and they can't get any pass rush, and can't tackle, well, won't matter much. I believe Tipton is OUT for CMU, though, but the backup looked like he was pretty good, too.

I won't pick the games, but I really think Fordham could sneak up on Nova.

Why do people think Fordham could sneak up on Villanova?

I know Villanova was a mild disappointment against BC but I just don't see Fordham testing them.

Villanova won 28-13 last year on on the Main Line.

Fordham is the real deal this year, so is 'Nova. This has the potential to be a great game. The Rams can be a real tough out in 'da Bronx....

Coach Ford knew exactly what he was getting into this season.

Ford, who turns 76 three days before the home opener Sept. 14, said he considered retirement after last season, which ended with the Danes winning their sixth Northeast Conference championship in 14 years as a league member.

"That would be a great time to ride off into the sunset," he said, "but I've always enjoyed the role of an underdog. You couldn't ask for a better role than the one we're going to be thrust into this year. It's a new stadium, and, this isn't going to come as a shock, we're going to lose some football games this year. ... I didn't want to turn that job over to brand new coaches and let them take the hit on it."
