Kickoff scheduled for 7pm PDT on Thursday from Portland's JELD-WEN Field between the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers from the NAIA's Frontier Conference and the Portland State Vikings. This will be the second year in a row that the Vikings open against a Frontier Conference foe as last year they started with Carroll College, and the third year in a row that they opened with a NAIA team as they played Southern Oregon the year before that. Eastern Oregon, from LaGrande, OR, has had some national recognition on the field in recent years but is predicted to finish in the middle of their conference race. The Vikings are hoping to get the season started on a positive note and get a game under their belt before next week's game at Pac-12 California. Eastern Oregon does hold an edge in the series, 7-3, but the two teams have not played since 1965.

TV: none

Radio: 750am The Game in Portland (PSU 's flagship station is Freedom 970 am, but this will be on the big sports radio station in Portland)

Are we going to surprise the conference this year, sir?

Maybe the Frontier Conference. Seriously, we won't know anything after this game. Cal isn't supposed to do much this year. It is my thinking that quite a few Big Sky teams could at least keep it close. If we want to surprise we'll need to stay with them. As for this week, nothing gained. We get the win, we go home. Big deal.
