9-0, soon to be 10-0. Both teams picked by the coaches to finish 5th in their conferences. I will be there at YSU to see the game. Looking forward to seeing the Flyers first game. Just like any other road game, play mistake free football and we can win. Really looking forward to the FCS Championship of Ohio. Dayton has a hugh question mark at QB. If we play like last year, could be a challenging game. At least we have two viable options this season. Pretty solid everywhere else. Place kicking could also be interesting. Can't wait!

YIKES!! The experts has spoken xeekx

From College Sports Madness:

Dayton at #23 Youngstown State, Thursday, 7:30

A battle of two lesser-known Ohio football teams concludes the Thursday schedule, but Youngstown State is no lightweight team. Youngstown State went 7-4 last year and split its MVFC schedule equally at 4-4. Youngstown State has lost nine straight matches to Dayton, so the team is hungry to make sure the 10th loss in a row does not take place. Dayton competes in the Pioneer League for football and there the Flyers went 5-3 (6-5 overall). Will the 10th time be the charm?

Projected Score: Dayton 27, Youngstown State 20

1977 :o

YSU-Dayton History
The Penguins will be looking to snap a nine-game losing skid in the all-time series against the Flyers that started in the program's second year of existence.
Only three of the nine previous meetings have been played in Youngstown - 1939, 1951 and 1977 (this will be the third different stadium).
Of the nine contests, four have been decided by a touchdown or less.
Dayton has scored 22-or-more points in six of the nine meetings while YSU has scored 20-plus points in just two games. The Guins have never scored more than 27 points in the series.

How about the Drake at ISU game? Remember the final score of that one? August 30, 2007....
From 2009:

"Statistically, since 2002 the Pioneer League is 7-25 against teams from auto bid conferences. They were outscored in these games by a total of 1132-486. In the 7 games that they won, their opponents combined for a record of 18-54, although one of those wins was against a 2007 Fordham team that won the Patriot League and lost in the first round to Massachusetts. There are two teams, Butler and Campbell, that did not play teams from automatic bid conferences during this period. The other issue that makes the Pioneer League appear to be weak is the losses to sub D-I opponents. The 10 teams in the league have combined for 53 losses to sub D-I opponents since 2002."

Can't have changed much. Maybe a little since NEC is an autobid conference now.

I took the time to check UNI vs the PFL since our record is poor

0-1 against Dayton - the loss was in 1948.
20-25-1 against Drake...will be 21-25-1 in a couple weeks. The last win for Drake vs UNI was 1985. Since then UNI is 3-0 by an average score of 49-10...52-17, 48-7, 45-7 and this year game will likely be about 50-7

Drake started the series 13-3-1 in the first 17 games (through 1953) Since then UNI is 17-12-0
UNI is 11-5 since 1968 against Drake
UNI is 8-3 since 1973 against Drake

I really want to do this for more teams.

Maybe I'll only go back to 1985 since that is when the MVFC was actually formed.

Was surprised by the SoCon record, but it looks like Davidson has feasted on Elon and Wofford (accounting for half the wins and only 23 of the losses.) Damn Elon, y'all are Davidson's whipping boy!

Hats off to YSU. Simply made more plays than the Flyers. Excellent running game and great kickers. IF Dayton had a better QB and receivers that could make a tough catch, we could have pulled it out. Nice stadium in Youngstown as well. Hope this gets to be a regular series. Oh by the way, YSU's starters played the entire game....

Dayton hung in better than expected. Makes me wonder about YSU for this year. If you had better, coaches, players, facilities, and scholarship you could have pulled it out. xbabycryx

My hat's off to Dayton. Your team played like they had a chip on their shoulder. I have gained a little more respect for your programxthumbsupx YSU has issues to iron out there's no doubt. Having Morehead next week will not give us any indication where we are for Valley play. Good luck to Dayton and I hope this becomes a series also.

As usual, Flyer fans try to B.S. their way around. YSU did NOT play their starters all the way. They rotated players in all night on both sides of the ball. QB is the only position they did not sub for and he had a horrible night throwing 2 INT, over throwing open receivers even with little pressure on him. Maybe the worst game of his career. They played 3 deep at RB, DBs, two of the OL positions and at least two deep everywhere else. Many true Frosh were on the field last night. Actually Dayton played a good game for a weenie conference league like the Pioneer. YSU did NOT play well because they pulled so many starters out to sub for playing and development time for the youngsters. And the crowd was small and quiet ( just over 12k).

Looking at PFL vs everybody, Davidson being 14-6 vs South Carolina seemed odd. Even if the series did end...more than 75 years ago

NDSU is 4-0. They have Valpo beating us....xlolx

Correction, after further investigation NDSU is 1-3 vs the pioneer.

With the only win coming from Valpo in 2004. Drake and Dayton beat our asses a few times in the 50's and 60's. It appears we were unable to even score a touchdown.

Yeah.... Dayton did not sub all night.... The same 22 players played every down ..Dayton had as many if not more subs than YSU. YSU's defense was gassed and cramping up by games end. Care to try again?

Dayton has a nice team and they are coached well. The Penguins were playing undisciplined football. YSU's rb admitted that the team lost focus during the game (really bad problem and a symptom of Wolford teams thus far). I like how the Dayton team plays, but they were physically mismatched in every area. If they played 10 times YSU would win 10 times.

I believe someone said YSU left their 1st team in all the way. Horsepucky !

Someone got smacked down as they should. When you lose, keep your mouth shut.

Here is an idea... Win your conference. We will as well. Then we can find out if you can beat us again in the playoffs. Many YSU and AGS folks have been spouting off that the Flyers did not belong on the same field as YSU. That is the real horsepucky here. YSU was one or two plays away from going down. I like the Flyers chances if we get another shot at YSU.

I will say the defense looked the best they have looked since heackock was the coach which is a great sign. dont know what was wrong with hess though..... very concerning when a 4th year starting QB plays so poorly
