I always find it amazing how hard it is to predict how I-AA teams are going fare in the pre-season (some of UD's best teams weren't expected to do much). SIU was supposed to be in a bit of a rebuilding phase this season, but obviously have an excellent team. Congrats skinny dogs!

Bring on Northwestern! The Gateway owns the Big 11!

The Salukis become the first Gateway team to ever beat a Big 10 team.

I love it!

Watched the game @ a restaurant in Carbondale. I was kind of doubtful, as was everybody else, when SIU went down 14 - 0. But the Salukis got the jitters out and started to settle down. Over the course of the game, 228 rushing yards and 4 TD passes by Nick Hill. The Salukis finally got over the hump of playing against I-A opponents and give the Gateway its first win against the Big Ten. Congrats to Coach Kill and the entire SIU team.

It's a great day to be a Saluki!

Everyone's "doin' the Egyptian" tonight! Super job. The number of I-AA wins over I-A's this year seems to much higher than last year--with some significant wins, too, over teams from some of the more "stellar" I-A conferences...:hurray:

Two I-AA wins last year, five so far this year. If you consider how many games were really, really close, it's been a great year, no doubt.

Tell me about it....:(

I was a grad student at IU in the early 90s and at least then we were mediocre. I'd prefer mediocre to what the program has become since Bill Mallory was fired.

But as a I-AA fan, I'm also happy for SIU and the Division. I just wish it would have happened to someone else - Indiana is probalby the only I-A team I'd openly root for vs. a I-AA.

Besides Antwaan Randle El, that was Cam Cameron's only contribution to IU football, and they were an abomination (the helments, not Randle El).

Great win by SIU, I saw it on the ticker and loved seeing another BCS team go down.

Great games also by Furman and Wofford.

I figured the majority of those SIU rushing yards would be Whitlock but apparently they were spreading the ball around....
Southern Illinois Rushing
CAR YDS AVG TD LG
Arkee Whitlock 22 97 4.4 1 18
John Randle 8 44 5.5 0 17
J.T. Wise 7 44 6.3 0 14
Justin Allen 4 37 9.3 0 15
Nick Hill 8 25 3.1 0 12

The Hoosiers have a good team. It would not surprise me to see them in a bowl at the end of the season. They did smoke a Western Michigan team to start the season that has since beaten Toledo and Virginia.

Yeah, I noticed. I doubt Coach Kill will allow a similar letdown. We still need 6 or 7 more wins to make the playoffs. It is back to work on Monday.

That's a level of confidence in the Hoosiers that you won't find anywhere, especially on the IU Rivals board right now. Most of us thought that if things broke right that the Hoosiers might - might - sneak into a bowl at 6-6. But a lot of us also saw the very real possibility of 4-8 or 3-9.

The trend since the WMU game is all bad for IU. I see two possible Ws on the rest of the schedule, and I'm not sure they will get by UConn at home or Illinois on the road. Of course, anything can happen on any given Saturday, but I don't share your confidence in IU. SIU was the better team on Saturday, and I'm not convinced that the Salukis aren't just better, period.
