Furman Unveils New Threads

I am not sure the last time Furman did a big time uniform upgrade, but it has been a while.

It'll take a while to grow on me. The football team is about the only athletic team at Furman that doesn't already incorporate black into the uniform combination.

I do like the contrasting logos on the different color jersey sleeves.

I agree. I'm usually not big on white helmets, but Furman, like Wisconsin, pulls it off well. Very sharp, clean look. xthumbsupx

I've always been the opposite. I think the white helmet, hats, pants look (Texas, Auburn, Wisconsin) is the best combination in football.

I actually like the purple on black but Im not a fan of the all black or the white on black/black on white. The black jerseys really caused a stir over on FlameFans when we pulled them out a couple years back. Id be fine with black as an alternate if its a tertiary color or something but not otherwise

Bruce Fowler made pretty clear the team would still wear the classic combo the vast majority of time.

I like the black on black, but that's all I really like the black pants for. We've been teased with rumors of getting a yellow jersey, but that'd be too much. The black alternate is at least not like jamming spikes into my eyes.

Fowler mentioned that there's no decision on uniforms combinations for the season. I imagine you'll probably see purple/white 95% of the time, but they'll break out the all blacks once for a homegame and maybe go with a unique combination against LSU (who always wears white at home).

I don't love black jerseys, and think they are gimmicky (particularly for a once a season promotion), but you can tell the players like it. With new facilities, seven recruits already locked up for next year, new uniforms, and a coaching staff that has really embraced social media as a way to connect, Furman has really positioned itself well to bust into the 21st century (though perhaps a decade late)

Black for Appalachian State is great. It's on of your primary colors, like Towson. I'm just not a fan of adding it to other teams just for having a black uniform.

I actually think the thin stripes -- the seams -- make the unis work. If they were chunky I think they would grab too much attention.

I think black unis are gimmicky. Still, there is no doubt that they energize players and students. If that kind of energy lands us another recruit over a competitor, I can stand it for one game a year.

I mean, look at the reaction of the players. I am as traditional as they come. I love Furman's look. Still, you can't ignore what motivates 18-22 year olds. While curmudgeons like us may sit here and say "what's wrong with a touchdial telephone," the reality is in the 21st century this is the hot new thing that gets players (and recruits) excited about the program.

Furman has embraced social media and has made a lot of whole sale changes. Frankly, if the options are go 3-8 in the old uniforms, or get with the current trend, attract more recruits, and get Furman back into the national conversation, then, as one post on theuffp said, "I don't care if they are wearing smoking jackets and bellbottoms."

Considering Furman has to use purple, these uniforms are pretty clean. Always loved the "diamond" logo. Do like the black.

I love the Auburn all white. My favorite is still Notre Dame...something about the golden dome....

I will give you that Wyoming makes mustard yellow and brown do its best work. Granted, there are not a lot of comparables.
