The starting kicker at the 2012 Inland Empire All-Star Football Classic, he was the field goal champion at the Chris Sailer Annual National Spring Event and the kickoff-champion at both the Kohl's Western Showcase and the Snap, Hold, Kick Los Angeles chapter competition. Kohl's ranked him as the No. 52 high school kicker nationally as a senior. Pierik also lettered in tennis, where he was a two-time league doubles champion, and in soccer.

Personal
Joseph Thomas Pierik is the son of Thomas and Tracy Pierik and has an older brother and younger sister. His grandfather, John Pierik, is in the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame after helping the 1948-50 teams to a 23-4 overall record. He was co-captain of the team as a senior and earned Associated Press second-team All-East honors. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
