I'm surprised that designation survived my out-migration. Way to keep it up my fellow NoDaks!

Coupled with the number 1 ranking here, NH knows whats up. http://www.buzzfeed.com/joshuazelman/how-responsible-is-your-state-when-it-comes-to-drinking-and

Also, Utah isnt any fun....

Ever been there? It's a pain in the ass to get a drink there, the laws are crazy.

Imagine the beer-panic in Frisco if NDSU and UNH make it.

Not to get into a dick measuring contest but do you think UNH would travel?

If they didn't, there would be more North Dakotans...resulting in an even bigger beer-panic.

35 gallons per person averages out to about a 12 ounce beer per day. Safe to say I'm pushing that average up at around 100 gallons a year.

As a retort to the inevitable jokes about how "well, there's nothing else to do in ND", when we North Dakotans leave the state we tend to drink even more. Just ask Minneapolis bar owners about the weekends of the Bison/Gopher games or the good folks down in Frisco.

After being in Frisco and seeing the NDSU folks partying on top of motor homes, tailgating and generally partying like no tomorrow I am not surprised by this. Even springfest in the GF was a good drinking party when I went up there once.

Cheers!

I'm a little disappointed in Wisconsin and Minnesota in their rankings. Step your game up.

Also, interesting that the state that drinks the most also boasts the most robust economy. Coincidence? I say not.

Back when I was in college a 12-pack of beer was a typical Friday night. 20 years later it takes me a couple of months to finish a 12-pack. :(

On the flip side, North Dakota is near the bottom (only ahead of Rhode Island and D.C.) in regards to the number of beer producers and distributors.

Yup. When the outdoor hockey game in Omaha was delayed this winter the bar hosting the pregame party ran out of Bud Light. I'd like to see the kind of party it'd take a bar in Grand Forks or Fargo to run out of beer.

Since ND relaxed it's alcohol laws in 2011, many more microbreweries have been popping up (there are now a couple in the bismarck/mandan area, at least 1 in minot, and I believe fargo has a couple also now) and I hope it continues. Also, if those numbers were per capita then ND wouldn't be so low compared to many other states.

There must be a mistake, Cajuns drink way more than what is reported. After looking at the list, I see the problem. I don't think it is a good thing but it lists those 21 and older.

Let me trump you with this CDC report
http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2012/07/03/states-with-most-underage-drinking/

My favorite part about North Dakota being at the top of the underage drinking reports is this curveball. They still rank in the top of high school graduation rates.

Read the fine print, this is beer shipments, not neccessarily consumption. Unlike neighboring Minnesota, you can buy beer on Sundays in ND. Lower taxes too, there's a lot of cross-border traffic.

North Dakota, open for business. (http://www.wdaz.com/event/article/id/17938/)

PS. Not that we don't do our part...

You don't want to know how much 16-20 year olds in ND drink. There are plenty of chicks here that can drink most men under the table.

I was disappointed Fargo fell off the drunkest city list for the first time in 3 years but it looks like the state is picking up the slack.

There's a reason our Minnesota border city is called "moorhead" and it doesn't have to do with that kind of head.
