JMU Duke Dog
August 28th, 2006, 10:48 PM
Thurs. Aug. 31

Hofstra 35 @ Stony Brook 14
The Pride show that the A10 is the cream of the crop in the northeast.

Rhode Island 3 @ Connecticut 45
The Huskies roll over their nextdoor neighbor.

Sat. Sept. 2

Colgate 21 @ Massachusetts 24 OT
The Minutemen win a close game in overtime to help build their playoff resume.

Northeastern 0 @ Virginia Tech 70
As much as I dislike the Hokies, does this game have the potential to be the most lopsided victory in Virginia Tech's football history?

Morgan State 7 @ Towson 49
The Tigers are improving every season.

William & Mary 35 @ Maryland 42
The Tribe have played well recently against I-A's from the ACC but their questionable defense will give the victory to the Terrapins in a high-scoring game.

Richmond 14 @ Duke 17
I think the Spiders scare the Blue Devils but will fall short due to lack of experience at the QB position.

Bloomsburg 21 @ James Madison 35
This game is way too close for comfort for Dukes fans as Bloomsburg's Brittingham goes for three rushing touchdowns while JMU looks ahead to next week's 2006 regular season national game of the year.

Villanova 7 @ Central Florida 38
These programs have been heading in opposite directions in recent years.

I can definitely think that Bloomsburg is capable of three touchdowns, but I don't see their defense holding us to 35. I see something closer to 49-21.

I like Richmond beating Duke as well. I'm encouraged by the fact that someone other than Levi Brown won the starting job - I saw highlights of the UMass game last year and all of the Lafayette game and I just don't think he can move that offense - you have to be mobile in Richmond's offense as the passing game is not going to be thing that wins games for them. Going with a mobile guy should work well with a pretty veteran team. Oh, and Duke is just in shambles football-wise so I go with Richmond too.

I'd tweak a few of these. I see URI's potent option attack scoring more than 3 points. I'll go with UC 45 URI 20.

I think UMass wins more convincingly at home 34-20.

Also think Towson and Morgan State will be closer based off of last year's game. Towson 34 - 23.

I'm not sure WM will put 35 on MD, Maybe 42- 23.

Lastly, not sold on UR over Duke. I'm almost certain it will be close, but I think Duke has some young talent on their team even after the defections of the of-season. Duke 20 UR 17. But, I'll be pulling for the Spiders.

I'll add my :twocents:

Hofstra 35 Stony Brook 0
Hoftra does not have the explosive offense that they had last year when they beat Stony Brook 55-0.

Rhode Island 14 UConn 45
Nothing would please a UMass fan more that a Ram upset. Rhody runs for nearly 400 yards, but they just don't have enough bodies on defense.

UMass 31 Colgate 21
Colgate lost their entire DL to graduation. The game is at UMass and I think UMass wins over the best team in the Patriot League

Northeastern 14 VA Tech 56
The good Huskies are not as bad as everybody thinks. Depends when the hokies clear the bench.

Townson 42 Morgan State 0
The tigers are 9-0 OOC in the last three years. Games against I-AA bottom feeders Morgan State, Elon and Liberty make in 12-0

William & Mary 35 Maryland 49
The tribe continues its good play against I-A opponents

Richmond ? Duke 24
No one knows if the Spiders have a QB. Outside of that, Richmond matches up well man-to-man with Duke.If they happen to have an A10-Rookie-of-year, then they beat Duke. If they have non-Tutt clones from last year, could be a long season for the Spiders

JMU 42 Bloomsburg 3
The Duke fans are sandbagging on this one. Brittingham is a good DII running back, with JMU's strong running defense gunning for him, it's not close. Brittingham goes 21-56 yards

Villanova 7 Central Flordia 42
The Wildcats are out-gunned on this one.

Hofstra 48 @ Stony Brook 0... it was 55-0 last year and HU is now better
Rhode Island 13 @ Connecticut 31... UConn's new car smell has worn off

Colgate 20 @ Massachusetts 24... UMass' turn to win
Northeastern 7 @ Virginia Tech 56... VT will score with O, D and special teams
Morgan State 17 @ Towson 35... usually a close game
William & Mary 10 @ Maryland 35... UM is better than UNC was and W&M isn't
Richmond 20 @ Duke 24... still hoping for a I-AA win though
Bloomsburg 10 @ James Madison 42... you guys are too tough on JMU
Villanova 24 @ Central Florida 35... UCF gives up a lot of points every game

A-10 Multimedia Links

I'm miles from the east coast, so I have to use the computer to listen to a game. I don't have any predictions, but here are some links that I found for listening to the game online.

Hofstra - WRHU radio (http://www.hofstra.edu/CampusL/WRHU/wrhu_stream.cfm)

URI gametracker (http://gorhody.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/uri-m-footbl-sched.html)
URI multimedia (http://gorhody.cstv.com/multimedia/uri-multimedia.html)

UMass on Sportsjuice (http://sportsjuice.com/broadcaster2.aspx?bid=MjQ%3d-9fRnZRDu36A%3d)
UMass multimedia page (http://umassathletics.cstv.com/multimedia/umas-multimedia.html)

Northeastern multimedia page (http://gonu.com/radio.htm)
Northeastern - WRBB (http://www.wrbbradio.org/sports/index.php)
Huskies Radio dot com (http://www.huskiesradio.com/)

JMU Sports (http://www.jmusports.com/) - I can't get this page to load just now. Maybe there is a link there for football broadcasts.

Richmond audio video page (http://richmondspiders.cstv.com/multimedia/rich-multimedia.html)

Towson live stats (http://www.towsontigers.com/livestats/)
Towson - WTMD (http://wwwnew.towson.edu/wtmd/listen_live2.htm)

Couldn't find anything for Villanova.

William & Mary schedule page (http://www.tribeathletics.com/sport_events.php/5/20060901000000/20061230000000/) - with links to live audio, video, and stats.

Hofstra over Stony Brook
Seawolves aren't ready for this yet, Flying Pride wins easily at home.

UConn over URI
The option will give the Huskies fits for a while, but they pull away at the end, the Rams just not good enough.

VT over Northeastern
Umm, yeah...

Towson over Morgan State
I'm pretty sure the Bears couldn't win when Towson was a middle-of-the-pack PL team. Now that they're an up-and-coming A-10 squad? TOWSON WILL WIN OVER ALL!!!!1!1! ;)

Maryland over W&M
Like last year, Tribe battles their I-A opponent tough, but UMd pulls away a tiny bit sooner than Marshall did last year.

Duke over Richmond
Maybe Clawson is gearing the Spiders up for several good years, but they didn't look good at all without Tutt under center. With Tutt, I'd pick them. Without him, Duke will be ready enough.

JMU over Bloomsburg
Dukes, out to prove last year was the fluke, rip their D-II opponents. Some garbage-time points make seem not as bad as it is.

UCF over Villanova
But 'Nova gives them a much tougher time than they were expecting.

...and finally:
Colgate at UMass
I think Day could be picked off again :D
Head leans toward Minutemen, heart to the Raiders. Hopefully it's a good one as we overcome our typical first game, umm, "issues"

Brittingham is out with a knee injury. This game is going to get ugly.

Watch for the W&M-UMD game to be closer than many may realistically predict mostly because of the weather. Rain should start this afternoon and continue through gametime in College Park. Rain tends to slow down offenses and allow lesser teams to hang around for a long time sometimes too long.

I am sure that many other east coast games will be hit the same way.

Here's a current picture of which games might be in the storm's path:

http://www.weather.com/newscenter/tropical/index.html?from=wxcenter_news

(click on "projected path")

This suggests that the worst of it will still be south of the Colgate/UMass game in Amherst.
