He also said there are several applicants with impressive resumes who are interested in the job, without disclosing names.

But candidates such as former Miami coach Randy Shannon and current Alcorn State coach Jay Hopson have been said to have interest in coaching the Rattlers.

“I don’t know how long they are going to be out there,” Robinson said. “I (also) fully well understand the recruitment window that we have, I understand fully well that we have to deal with the staff, not just the head coach, but who he may want to keep and who he may not want to keep; all of those kinds of factors.”

Robinson agreed that the hiring process should be done quickly, especially because of the state of limbo the current staff members find themselves in.

“I think it’s important that we consider that (because) there are people’s lives that are going to be impacted by this decision,” he said. “Anything we could do to expedite the matter is beneficial to all parties.”

I would be a shame to see Hopson leave Alcorn. I would think he would try to rebuild that program for the days when the 9 game mandate and the SWAC Championship Game are a thing of the past.

You do not want him as your head coach. He is an excellent asst coach, but does not have the demeanor to handle the head duties.
