saw this post on Richmond Spider board......"--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at some CAA stats...Spiders were +22 in turnover ratio, next best team was UNH at +7. The team had 24 interceptions, next best was 16 and Howell and Hamilton each had 5 to lead the league (CT had 4 with a bunch of other CAA players). And on offense, the Spiders only allowed 5 sacks on our QBs for the season, next best is Towson at 13. Still can't believe we were overlooked."

Spiders defeated Villanova in Philly by 11 and were CAA co-champs...first 8-3 team left out from CAA since 1996.............the odor from the selection committee is worst than putrid! We expect a higher level of competence from these people.

It was an odd year, too many deserving teams this year. There was major separation between the top 15-20 teams than the rest of FCS.

That is a crazy stat, +22 ration! Wow.

That's it in the ol' nutshell. Richmond was deserving, so was Towson, as were others that were left out. Is it right? Well yes it is unfortunately. If they had been left out when there was clear separation between them and some of the other at large teams then a case could be made. I think the committee did a pretty good job considering how tough choosing teams whas this year.

Richmond has a case to be sure, but so do others and so would Villanova had they been left out.

Trying to compare this year to previous years is just a faulty premise to begin with. I feel for the fans of those teams and think it's at least a good thing that people really care they were left out and state their cases though.

IMO, get used to more seasons like this. A lot of it has to do with conferences not having round-robin schedules...

South Dakota State and Illinois State didn't play
Montana State and Cal Poly didn't play
Villanova and New Hampshire didn't play.
And that doesn't even begin to get into the games that did not play out among playoff teams and teams in the same conference who were right on the bubble.

So among the 4 conferences with 3 teams in the playoff field, the SoCon is the only one where every team in the playoff field had to play both of the other teams in the regular season.

Yes, the last two in were SDSU and Stony Brook. Look at how well those two did in their first round games vs the AQ from the OVC & CAA. Should either of those two been denied?

The CAA left itself open to not getting as many in as they are used to with ODU (not allow to be the AQ) outplaying the rest of the CAA. Yes, there were a slew of 2nd place teams vying for the AQ. The expanded Big Sky also made for a changed selection process. It was amazing how the selected teams did a great job of not being scheduled to play each other. Poly and EWU resolved that by playing each other as an OOC. Round of 16 match #1 vs #3 Sagarin's best FCS teams. It's a crying shame that these two long term, conference rivals are playing each other because of their proximity.
