I went out today and got a few shots of the new fieldturf at JMU's Bridgeforth Stadium. I didn't have time to taken anymore because the players were coming back on and I wasn't sure if it qualified as an open practice, as I walked in there without really asking anyone if it was alright. Tomorrow I might try to get some better shots. Anyway, here are two of them.

My attempt at an overview shot:

I like the alternating colors - just would have perferred that they alternate every 10 yards instead of 5.

The turf is sweet, I like the way it alternates color. Duke Dog at midfield is pretty sweet as well!

I'm not too fond of the alternating colors. Sure, it might help with spotting the ball but isn't that what the lines are for? Otherwise looks very nice.

In the endzone shot it looks like there is a very large crown in the field. Maybe it's just the picture.

There's virtually no crown. Looks like a stain on the field that gives that impression. Who peed on the Dukes field already?

Tribe went with the same shade all over. Both look good to me.

:bawling: : smh : :bawling: I is a shame that they got rid of the natural grass down there. That was the best surface in the Atlantic 10.: smh :

JMU has topped Delaware as the best stadium in the league. Looks beautiful.:hurray:

One endzone says MADISON. Does the other say JAMES? LOL

Very very nice field.

Did you ever see the old field? If you want to talk crowns that go back to the old surface. There's a reason why JMU ran those toss sweeps so well.

LOOKS GOOD. I'm glad to see 1-aa teams improving their facilities. What is the capacity?

I'm actually not sure. There's a bigger non-permanent set of bleachers behind the other endzone than there was last year, so it has to be like 16,000 overall. The school is going to bowl it in here in the next couple years.

Looks great, I like the 2-tone turf. I also like the new FieldTurf and Sportexe single color green that has been installed around the country this summer. I mentioned this in a earlier post that Robert Morris' 11 game season will be all on synthetic turf in 2006.

:D

I agree, for now, it's still no contest, Delaware Stadium is better. It's bigger, closer to the action (no track, or no covered over track), and has less endzone seats percentage-wise than JMU does (I like sideline seating better). The playing surface is at least even - brand new Field Turf versus brand new real grass - we'll see how they hold up going forward. JMU has a video board that I would give them the edge on. If Delaware does nothing for the next 10 years to the stadium and JMU does upgrades, it's a different story - but that's not happened yet.

One thing I've never understood is why UD's scoreboard is not in the center of the endzone. And speaking of scoreboards, JMU's is very difficult to read during games. The game data is too small.
