This should be a great game.

Coker is straight abusing Nova on their first drive, after starting at their 1 or 2.

I have a feeling Coker is going to break out in the playoffs. Hs been quiet all year with Maysonnet as the starter, but Coker is so powerful and power wins in the playoffs.

With the way Nova played in that first half, they are very fortunate to only be down by 2 scores. Hopefully something changes at the half. Nova has to put 9 guys in the box and count just make Stony beat them with the pass.

Me too, I saw it up close in week 1. As good as the running game is, they still need solid QB play. I hope the injury to the starter doesn't have a major impact.

no doubt Stony Brook is a legit top 5, championship contender team. I've seen them up live when they played GDub. Massive Oline and to go along with that, FAST! they can pull like no other. Then you have two NFL prospect RB's in Coker and Maysonet. Defense is solid too.

As good and efficient as Essington (sp?) is you have to take him out of his comfort zone, stony brook in general and make them pass. like Liberty did. they are TO prone. As stated

Stony Brook is just look an option team IMO....let's not jump too hard on their bandwagon (though they scare me), there are plenty of other teams that are just as good and play similar styles of offense in that they are run first teams that play good defense (SDSU, NDSU, Wofford, GSU on the top of my head) that have the potential to impress in their opening round games as well.

I agree with what you are saying, as there are other 8-3 teams Nova could have easily been swapped with, but still losing to a Big South team doesn't look good.

I still agree, but what I am simply trying to say is that if Nova was so good, they should have taken care of business, or at this point, made the game much more competitive.

As I stated earlier, this might be an indicator that the CAA is down again this year.

Sorry, not impressed so far. SB is solid, no doubt, but the Cats are very fast on D and tackle well. SB is also turnover prone and the Cats have one of the best redzone offenses in the country. Give us a short field and they're in trouble.

Combine that with 15-17,000 crazy fans, altitude, and a cold Bozeman night, and I'm not worried at all.

Keep thinking that this is the same defense as 10 and 11 at your own peril, Mr C!

And should have received one as the CAA auto-bid.

Frankly, I think the NCAA treated ODU as the auto-bid team and slotted UNH and Nova as 2nd place CAA squads.

How did ODU lose to Nova? They look horrible.

I'm well aware of that. I was simply commenting on the huge difference between that Nova team and the one that played today.

I think so too...but still doesn't mean that UNH should have gotten a bye while Nova did not get one.

Nova plays much better against passing oriented teams like ODU. Nova's offense is all about being in rhythmn, and when you play against a team that owns time of possession, you really get thrown out of your rhythm.

I'm not sure what the line on this game was, but I would have had to think that Nova was underdogs going into this game anyway. The only good news I can take out of this loss other than the fact that most of the team is returning is that Nova gets a chance at revenge next year with SB joining the CAA :P

People need to remember these are to of the lower teams in the tournament, of course teu can look good against each other. Look at how the prolific offense of EIU looked against SDSU today. I expect the same when these guys get to Bozeman. Totally different situation.

Should be interesting. MSU shut Montana's running game down pretty well, but we had absolutely no passing game when needed. SB hasn't had to show a passing game yet, and also hasn't had to play in the cold.

I don't mean to overplay the cold, but it really is a big deal.
Current temperatures: Bozeman 41 degrees, wind chill 36. Stony Brook 38 degrees, wind chill 28

Thanks for all the good thoughts. Essington returns next week so our wide receivers will get some work. They were silent today since we didnt pass with a new QB in there, # 25 Jordah Gush was out after the Coastal game with a fractured collarbone played today. Didnt get a touch but will next Saturday for sure-See ya in Montana !

attendance under reported by Stony Brook. (4905)... that sucks. I won't know the actual attendance but it was at least 7900 strong.

Great win today. So Proud of my wolves. We defeated one of the top CAA teams so that's a good start

Stadium was almost completely full except the endzone and the victors side was standing room.

Cant blame the under reporting. Why pay the NCAA more than you have to.

I agree with what you are saying, as there are other 8-3 teams Nova could have easily been swapped with, but still losing to a Big South team doesn't look good.

Now, with that being said, I think Stony Brook is tough as hell. Certainly not trying to act like I am on some high horse considering my team went 5-6.

Ya people think about conference affiliations too damn much... to the point that ya forget to think about talent beforehand. Who cares if SBU is a Big South team. Its ranked in the top 10 and we have a darn good team.

I'd be interested to see how this game would have played out if SB was in the CAA this year. Not trying to make excuses but Nova's last 3 games were playoff games, and SB was coming off a home game and a week's rest. I'll be eager to see if SB can go through the rigorous CAA schedule and still be healthy enough to perform in the playoffs.

what is this supposed to mean? are you serious? c'mon dude...

We played an entire season without a bye week and that included two FBS schools... we were defeated on our last game... I don't know what are you trying to set up here

All respect to Villanova and its fans. But today we were the better team and arguably all season long...

Just got back from a very eventful trip to and from LI. Tip my hat to Stony Brook they played a great game. Hell of a rushing duo they've got there, I haven't looked at the stats yet, but my guess is they averaged about 7 yards a carry. Anything will be possible next weekend if they can control the possession like they did today. 39:30 while giving the ball up twice, thats just absurd.

Pretty hard to judge either team good or bad from this game without any common opponents, but seeing how they beat Colgate by 1 point I wouldn't be surprised that this game will be a lot like the SDSU game today, with MSU being SDSU.

It's just history. If Stony Brook had stayed in the Big South and made some good runs, you can bet the Big South would get a ton more respect.

For example, look at Sam Houston last year. Nobody was giving them a shot, because for many years (since Hurricane Katrina) the Southland teams were not as strong as they used to be. They proved almost everyone wrong.

Stony Brook's last 3 games weren't playoff games - All I'm saying. Nova was incredibly banged up in the trenches and SB was not, and you could tell from this game.

For some reason I tortured myself to read through this whole thread and I cannot believe no one has mentioned the officiating. I know no one wants to hear about complaints about a call on a message board and it sounds like sour grapes, so let me start by saying I know people in the program at SB and I told them before the game I would wear my blue and white but the winner has my support the rest of the way.

Now, I won't even get into the fact that nearly every offensive play for SBU had at least one of a hold, illegal snap, or chop block, and that the spotting of the ball was consistently terrible. The 3 things I will point out, because they are the most concrete, are the end of a quarter when the play clock ran out just before the quarter but the refs just let the quarter end no penalty, Norm White being very blatantly held when he beat his man one on one in the 4th for a sure TD (approx 75 yds) and when the linesman SPOTTED THE BALL WHERE ROBERTSON THREW IT INCOMPLETE RATHER THAN THE ORIGINAL LINE OF SCRIMMAGE, which led to a conference of refs only after Nova coaches went off on them, and then not resetting the play clock when they respotted the ball correctly so we had to burn a TO!

I'm really sorry if this comes off the wrong way to SB fans, I just expected a great game and from what I saw on the field it would have been if the refs had more competence. Yes Nova was banged up and it showed and we had some uncharacteristic drops and this game would have been a battle to the end no matter what because SBU runs the ball so well, but I wanted to see a cleaner game out there. Disgusting for the playoffs.

There were also several instances where SB ran for first downs, but the game clock never stopped - it just continued to run like it does in the NFL. Probably something most people would never notice.

All the credit in the world to our QB on his first start. But you were banged up and we played with a complete rookie QB who many think should get a game ball. SBU held it 's poise throughout the game. and rallied around him. So I think that evens the injuries on both sides.
