Colgate at Wagner, Mr. C's Official Game Thread

It is a blustery day in Staten Island in the shadow of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, with a few snow flurries falling from the sky as Wagner and Colgate go through pre-game workouts at Hameline Field. Wagner's stadium reminds me a bit of Robert Morris's field in the Pittsburgh suburb of Moon Township., but with a cool view of the Hudson River as it flows into the Atlantic Ocean and, in the distance, Brooklyn.

Wagner officials were as surprised as anyone when the NCAA brackets were announced and the Seahawks were selected for a home game.

This is a matchup of two hot teams. Wagner is coming in with an eight-game winning streak, while Colgate has won seven in a row. It is also a game of potential contrasts, with a strong Wagner defense and a lethal Colgate offense.

We are 30 minutes away from kickoff. Please feel free to comment, or questions as this one plays out.

Hopefully Colgate gets a win. They worry me in the playoffs though with their style. Outside of 2003 their performances have been dreadful.

Just a few flurries, a few flakes. Nothing serious. The last time I was at a Colgate game where there were snow flurries, it didn't turn out so good. Delaware beat the Raiders 40-0 in the 2003 national championship game in Chattanooga, TN.

Wagner's defense has only given up more than 28 points in 2 games (38 vs. Monmmouth and 30 vs. Holy Cross). They held FBS Florida Atlantic (with 40+ more schollys) to 7 points and shutout Albany.

On offense, the Sehawks have scored 30+ in 5 of their 11 games. I think 'Gate is in for a tough game on all sides of the ball.

At least Hameline didn't suffer the fate of Bob Ford last year in the first round, when the Albany coach was hit by one of his own men, tore up his knee and needed surgery. But Ford coached the whole game.

They've done a good job reading what Gate is doing on D it looks like to me cuz they've chosen inside when th Ends are out or they are bringing a LB to the outside and then when they don't they hit the outside corner really well. I think the QB is doing a good job of getting it where there is a lack of manpower.
