Congrats to the Wagner College Seahawks - 2012 NEC Champs and NCAA Playoff AQ

They are the 3rd NEC team to make the playoffs:

2010 - Robert Morris (CCSU Co-Champs)
2011 - Albany (Duquesne Co-Champs)
2012 - Wagner (Albany Co-Champs)

The NEC will miss Albany, but it's nice to see the NEC had 4 other teams also win NEC championships in the past 3 seasons. This is not a 1-team league.

Wagner deserves it. Albany is the best team in the NEC but laid an egg when it mattered against Wagner.

Thems the breaks.

The NEC was good for Albany. Got us a taste of the playoffs which I do think was a big driver in our Adminstration's decision to accept the CAA offer.

I'll also miss a winning record. Might not have one of those again for a few years.

Not so sure about that.

Wagner lost by 3 to Florida Atlantic, a bad FBS team, but with 40+ more scholarships! They then lost by 3 at Georgetown, and laid a egg of their own vs. Monmouth. They have now won 8 straight, including a shutout at Albany.

The NEC has had co-champs for the past 3 seasons - this is a tough league week in and week out. Albany has had the most sucess, but they have not dominated this league outright. Again, we'll miss Albany, but the NEC is and will remain a tough FCS conference.

Albany is the best team in the NEC

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Nick Doscher threw for a pair of touchdowns, and the Wagner defense held Albany to 188 yards of total offense as the Seahawks overcame preparation obstacles due to Hurricane Sandy to topple the Great Danes 30-0 for first place in the Northeast Conference.

The Seahawks (6-3, 6-1) won despite a disrupted work week due to Hurricane Sandy. The Wagner campus was evacuated Sunday, and players reconvened Tuesday to prepare for Albany (7-2, 5-1) on a campus that was still shut down and without electricity.

You'll probably end up at Colgate or SBU if tey sneak in. Both are winnable.

Congrats to Wagner on winning the title. Looking forward to a great game on Saturday. What is the capacity at Hameline Stadium? Can't find it on your website. Do you think there will be any tickets available day of game at walk-up window? Great number of 'Gate alumni in the NYC area should make for a nice crowd. Is there a tailgating area available?

Just as the Dukes were the better team last year, but didn't play like it when it mattered (against albany). Wagner didn't just beat Albany this year, 30-0 is a statement. And not an egg-laying situation. Say what you will.

Might have been.

And it was far and away an egg we laid for the first half. Really for the first quarter.

OK, thanks busybee. So, if I can't make the game is there a radio station that will be broadcasting it? Maybe a student-run station? And what are the call letters and frequency numbers for such a station? Somehow, some way I'd like to see or listen to the game :)

For a "smaller" conference Nec does a great job imo. Frontrow was a great add this year and was a big upgrade over last seasons team broadcasts.props to the NEC

Hameline is the Coach and AD.

Tom Massela is also on staff.

Both former Bob Ford assistants.

Wow - he has been there for 30+ seasons! I remember Russo saying after his first game (and first win) as Lafayette HC (beating Central Conn., 51-0) in an interview published the next day in the Easton (PA) Express that he was going to watch the Wagner game that night - I assume under the lights - if so, they had lights well before LC which got them in 2006.

Looks like a clear but windy day. Could favor Wagner due to the air attack being problematic for Gate. McCarney will just have to deal with it to make our offense go.

It can get pretty windy on Grymes Hill. But that is problematic both ways. Doscher can throw the ball.

Go Seahawks!

In 32 seasons - avg of about 7 wins a year - not bad - I would take that. Go Seahawks (cause of the Russo connection!)
