I'd say the Iowa-Montana & YSU-Slippery Rock spreads will be bigger. I don't think Hampton beats Grambling by 17 either.

Your right it could happen but I dont see it happening. We added 4 transfers this week to add depth to the only holes we had coming into camp.

QB Joe Sanford (Virginia) 6'2", 208 lbs(walkon QB at UVA who left the team after being suspended for a season. Will battle for backup QB)
OL Heath Heekin (UNLV) 6'3', 325 lbs(transfered from Riverside Community College in Cali before redshirting last season with UNLV)
DB Courtney Robinson (Connecticut) 6' runs a 4.5 40(played in 11 games as a true freshman for UConn)
DL Andrew Krevis FR (Eastern Michigan) 6'7" 236 lbs(quickly left EM after signing with them)

I think the Bobcats are going to win that one. A loss to the Texans wouldn't be a good thing for the 'Cats now. Of course, the 'Cats almost lost to the Statesmen last year...just like SFA almost fell apart against Henderson St. The SLC needs to avoid Div II embarassment...

I know in Chattanooga's case (and probably Tenn Tech too)...you are going to get better attendance on Thursday than going up against UT-Knoxville vs Cal on Saturday (on EPSN). I hate it, but it is a sad but true fact.

UH....Don't be surprised if SAU puts up a big fight....I have watched them get tougher every year and last year they were a QB away from being one great team. RB D.D. Holyfield will run it up all over Nicholls. But I agree in the end Nicholls will win. But not as easy as it appears.:nono: :smiley_wi

Here's how they did against powerhouses Valdosta and North Alabama:
#3 (nation) Valdosta State 44, Southern Arkansas 41

*Raise my hand* Ummm, TT, Tarleton does in fact refer to itself as TSU. While official university marketing wants to make sure that TARLETON is mentioned. Everyone else, from the student body to the university bookstores to the marching band and Alumni Association refers to us as TSU. Notice my name? TSU has been part of my moniker since my freshman year at Tarleton

Hey TSU! (one of the band cadances) (http://www.tarleton.edu/~music/bands/images/heyTSU.mp3)

A lot of schools schedule it then becuae of Labor Day weekend, you don't have (m)any students on campus and many STH's may be forced to choose between vacation & the game.

Liberty wanted its opener on a Thursday so it wouldn't have to compete with Virginia Tech's opener on Saturday. Plus Danny Rocco wanted to build a sort of "special game" atmosphere for the first game of a new coaching era. This area is heavily into Virginia and Virginia Tech, so it's a pretty deft move on Rocco's part. The hope is to get some random Central Virginians to buy in.

What is your prediction for UNC/Furman?

PaladinFan

ASU fans convieniently forget that the Paladins beat them in Greenville during the regular season. In both the semifinal game and the regular season game the Mountaineers and Paladins were nearly dead even in most categories, offensively and defensively. I think it a bit of a stretch to say that ASU>Furman because the numbers will show that isn't the case.

Remember that your NC team last season got their tails whipped by a Kansas team that is a perennial doormat of the Big 12 and couldn't muster a score against LSU (granted, they are a far tougher team). That was a team with Richie Williams. Now, without Williams, they face a tougher, better opponent in your home state, a team that most likely cares about beating you. I just don't see ASU winning that ball game.

Similarly, I don't see Furman winning either. Will both teams put up a fight? Yes. I think the Paladins may very will win the time of possession against the Tarheels, but they are a vastly improved football team over a few years ago.

Look on the bright side, even if the Mountaineers lose it is one step closer to post season seeding.

I know in Chattanooga's case (and probably Tenn Tech too)...you are going to get better attendance on Thursday than going up against UT-Knoxville vs Cal on Saturday (on EPSN).

No doubt. Thursday night games are the best.

Similar score with the Heels winning.

I think both teams have legitimate shots at knocking of the I-As.

But let's face it, it does not happen often.

Agreed.

Either way, this will be one of the few times I pull for Furman =) ... and vice-versa I assume.

No.Co over UC-Davis, 31-27

Iowa over Montan, 42-13

New Mexico over PSU, 27-10

Colorado over MSU, 44-17

Idaho St. over UNLV 21-20

Boise St. over Sac St. 44-7

Oregon St. over EWU. 28-7

CSU over Weber St. 21 - 10

I see one different and one by a wider margin.

Davis 42 UNC 17

If UNC isn't any better than the team I saw last year you'll be lucky to win 1 conference game.

I think GSU plays their first game in week 2, the 9th or so?

I might be wrong.

I believe our (GSU) first game is 9/9 against Cen Conn State @ 7:00PM..

With all of the changes @ GSU I think the first week off will be sorely needed. It'll give our guys just one more week to practice and hopefully get our act together.

This season is surely gonna be "interesting".....

Truthfully, the final score is the only thing that matters. I believe APP has a winning record in recent history against Coach Lamb's teams. I think he has 1 victory over ASU. Game statistics maybe indicators of which team wins, but I always consider the final score. If Richie Williams had not hurt his ankle in the second quarter against Furman, that games outcome is not as close, and maybe your coach doesn't show himself at midfield.

Yes, ASU has been better than FU every since the Miracle in the Mountains or the Go for 2 game..

We did get our tails whipped by the 2005 bowl team Kansas, hardly a doormat.

Yes, ASU left 10-14 points on the field at LSU in Tiger Stadium.

Didn't notice Furman scheduling University of Miami and Nebraska last year, two teams with comparable rankings of LSU and Kansas in 2005. Maybe if you had it would have toughened you guys up. Many LSU faithful have been very complimentary of the ASU effort. Those experiences it made APP a much better team.

I will be pulling for FU against the Tarholes. Hope you win more than the T-O-P.

I want ASU to beat State, but don't fully expect a win because of the scholarship difference, but I do think it will be closer than you indicated in your prognostcation and the fact we historically don't play well first games.
But, I have my fingers crossed because of the returning experience. I say the game is within a score either way.:hurray:

I guess it'll be strange rooting against the Purple & Gold of JMU on Sept. 9th then... Or maybe you're used to it after last year's NC game they played against UNI... Seems strange how App State is playing against so many purple teams lately, is Northwestern State on the horizon?

In regards to scheduling a I-A team last year, we tried. Hard. But there were no takers. Apparently a few of them saw the Pittsburgh game.

The 2002 and 2003 Paladins were far from being the team that they are this year. In 04, you guys win by 1. In 05, we split. I'm not ready to call Furman the better team, but it will be decided, just like every year, on the field, in that voodoo-ridden place called Boone.

I understand ASU has won 4-1 in recent history, but its not as if those games were blowouts. Furman was an Ingle Martin ice slip from the NC game. Players get hurt in big games. No one can say what might have or might not have happened if Richie Williams had stayed in the game.

I look at stats because I believe they are important. I look at the game played in Greenville last year. Richie Williams threw for 272 yrds and rushed for 128. He accounted for 400 of ASU's 468 yrds in that game. Your vaunted Kevin Richardson didn't even break 70 yrds on the ground.

I think ASU is going to miss #7 more than they are willing to admit. That is a lot of offense to lose.

I think ASU gets the nod on the inside track to conference champion, but I refuse to acknowledge them as better than Furman right now, I simply have not seen enough to show me they are clearly a better team. If luck fell a different way, every one of the past 5 games could have turned out differently, including Furman's win in '05.

These statements should be said with the meaning they have. An opinion of what might have been. :nono: Adjustments are made dependingon how the game is played.

I am sure GaSU never expected an astonishing comeback from TxST.

Now, you have every right to say it, but it is opinion and you know what the say about opinions......:D
