Good News: Rookie defensive tackle Fred Evans has impressed teammates and coaches alike, earning himself second-string honors for the time being. The 6-foot-4, 305 pound tackle has shown flashes of both power and quickness in the trenches and will likely find a spot on the roster, despite being a seventh-round afterthought of sorts.

Bad News: Evans' ascendance means that last year's backup, Manuel Wright, has not been impressive thus far. After a well-publicized crying incident early in the 2005 campaign, Wright became one of the most pleasant surprises on the defensive side of the football, even logging a few starts when veteran Keith Traylor went down with injury. Currently, Wright is nursing an unspecified "personal medical issue" (no kidding...that's what Saban called it) and will have to fight his way back into the rotation.
