I don't understand how GSU could get that either but Wofford was a close second at least this week. I don't see why people are primarily just taking one game and making that the most significant win/loss. I don't get that at all. Since so little thought is being put into it maybe it isn't something we even need to track or ask for any longer.

It is significant to possible put yourself out a seed but is it nearly as significant as possibly putting yourself out of the playoffs at this late stage in the game? No way.

Lehigh11.

While I put UA at 23...to say they dropped like a brick from hurting their playoff chances is a bit illogical to me. This poll isn't about picking playoff teams...it is about picking the best teams.

Albany is better than Harvard...and beat Colgate and would beat them again today (though Colgate made my poll). Most of us have NO idea wtf happened this weekend. It was a lack of heart IMHO, which is disturbing.

Otherwise...good crack at the poll.

Albany shouldn't be ranked, IMO.

I have been saying for the past 3-4 weeks that we haven't been playing like a Top 20 team. Since Monmouth we have been slowly declining and squeaking out wins. We were still a Top 25 team until the loss to Wagner, but not Top 20. Now we're not. We got destroyed by Wagner. Manhandled.

Not a Top 25 team.

So...I agree with people who knock them out...but not knocking them out because they put a dent in the playoff hopes. That is not logical to what the poll is about. It is logical to knock them out because they got destroyed by a lesser team.

24-20? I have had them next to each other ever since that game. SHSU has been impressive lately but there are no playoff teams really in that stretch (McNeese?). Unless there is a crazy good showing at A&M to end the season or an L by either, it will stay this way to me.

And if you're talking about #6 & #7, I think all those with 2 L's are very interchangable but I like the top 2 from the Southland this year.

It was disgusting but it wasn't out of character for the team if you look only at the games after Monmouth. Zero offense and porous defense at times. Wagner shut down our offense and the defense was non-existent in the first half. We have lost the big-play ability that kept us in the games we were able to win early in the season.

I haven't had Delaware in my poll for weeks, but you could argue they "dropped" more than they should have. They weren't in the Top 25, but were receiving votes, and lost to a Top 25 (obviously higher ranked) team in OT, so in theory you had Towson at 20 and Delaware at 25 last week. Towson won, it was close, so Delaware shouldn't have dropped because the result was what was expected. And I'm not saying that as a Delaware fan, just expressing my way of thinking for the polls. I've seen games where it is #3 vs #4, #4 loses by a field goal and people drop them out of the Top 10. Why? The game went exactly as expected, so if anything it shows you had them ranked correctly last week.

Got it, very late however, but you need to put your email in correctly or else you and agspoll will never see it. Since it was so loate and the email was messed up I verified it and passed it through. You can not just hit "tab" after putting in the first three letters of the email cuz that will only use just that as your email address just for future reference. When it drops down, you need to select the address with the mouse as opposed to tabbing unfortunately. I've made that mistake myself.

Nice win H2H but there were other factors. I could say record but LSU to Penn/ Fordham would be unfair as well. Really, that win @ ODU for Nova was really nice and you guys didn't knock down the Monarchs at your place. Believe me, I think regardless of rankings, you guys win the last 2 and should be the first 7-4 team in line for a playoff berth this year.

With 2 FBS teams I think it is. Towson could really sneak in @ 7-4. If JMU & ODU finish at 9-2, there other 2 L's to LSU & Kent Sate (good this year), and solid wins ON THE ROAD @UDEL, @Nova & @UNH. I see them over several other 8-3 teams from power conferences or 9-2 from the lesser.

They received one vote. The voter was questioned on it and he had reason enough based on his way of voting but the PC did not come to consensus on it so it went through. He was asked to post it on the thread and discuss his reasoning with y'all along with one other team but I don't think he will be doing so. His reasoning and explanation is not without merit but most will question it at this point in the season.

I've been thinking this exact same thing. I believe SHSU is a good team, but what about this year's resume makes them better than any of these teams?

They don't have a real signature win and play in a conference that is traditionally below that of the power 4 (CAA, MVC, Southern, Big Sky) and didn't even win it. They have a pretty good SoS because they played 2 BCS teams, but if you don't win them, how is that definitive proof that they are good? It goes back to the mantra of "everyone is capable of losing to a good team, but not everyone can beat one."

Too much left to play out for me to say whether SHSU deserves a playoff spot at this point, but I think there are scenarios out there where they could be justifiably left out.

I put Sac State as most significant loss. Eliminated from playoffs after a close and tough loss to MSU

Edit: Well not entirely eliminated but extremely unlikely to get in

I think people may be nailing Ga. Southern for a FUTURE loss in the poll to drop to 8-3, sliding them behind teams more likely to make 9-2.

The most fascinating part about this season is the fact that two of the better teams right now (Towson and SHSU) are extremely unlikely to reach 8 DI wins. It'll be interesting to see how much stock the committee puts into FCS wins, current ranking and perceived talent, because there is unfortunately nothing about Sam's resume that suggests they are more worthy than other 7 DI win teams. Aside from that, though, it's clear to me they have some of the best talent in the country ... but should that matter when it comes to evaluating who has the best resume?

Same with Towson, ultimately; at best, they can reach 7-4 and a tie for the CAA title. There simply might not be enough non 8 DI win teams for them to go in, even if they close out with a win over UNH.

So much for the CAA having a down year, three teams in the top ten and six in the top 25; and that's not counting Towson. Admittedly they scheduled some weak OOC teams, but take the bottom dwellers (URI & Ga State) out of the mix and the CAA went 16-2 in OOC games with an average winning marngin oF 30+ points. All this with #6 Stony Brook and # 25 Albany waiting in the wings to join us!

I think UCA and Sam Houston in any other conference would still be a top 10 team in the country. Yes the bottom SLC teams are weak (Lamar and Nicholls) but McNeese, SFA, Sam, UCA can hang with anyone. SFA should have beaten Montana St, McNeese St beat a 6-3 Middle TN ST team, UCA hung with a SEC team and beat Sam and Sam took care of business last year in the playoffs and have dominated the last 5 games.

Why sam rather than Wofford? Why sam rather than Indiana State? Both teams will have the same record and play in a much tougher conference.

Sam Houston has been ranked in top 10 all season, even with two losses so if they win this weekend, they are in.. Started season #1, lost to Baylor and C Arkanasas and dropped to #9, and now have won 6 straight averaging 42 points a game. Kats are not just squeaking by, they are steam rolling opponent outscoring them 410-145 on the season thus far. I think everyone knows that if the C. Arkansas game were played again right now, Kats would probably roll . They are in a totally different gear right now. Peaking at the right time. You can sit and say "The Southland is weak" like everyone always says. But, make no mistake about it, Kats are turning some heads right now....

I see ODU as no more than number four (4) in any of the polls at this time. ODU's coach, Bobby Wilder, said although we are getting better we are still not where we need to be. Although we have obtained the mythical " eight (8) wins get you in", we play William & Mary and JMU the next two games. There's no love lost between the Tribe & Monarchs or JMU. Who knows what the outcomes will be. There is a huge difference between 8-1 and 8-3. I believe 8-3 gets us in but no home game; 8-2 gets us a home game, and 10-1 gets us a bye.

I know which one I like better!

It's amazing how people still don't respect Sam Houston. Comparing them to Wofford???? Sam has just been dominating teams. Yes, they lost to UCA, but among like opponents, Sam is annihilating teams while UCA is just slightly roughing them up. Among like conference opponents, Sam has outscored by a combined 203 points, UCA has outscored by 46 points. You have to look beyond their "weak" schedule.

Look at what they've done the past six weeks. They have outscored their last six opponents 313-66. They haven't been playing high school teams either. SELA's next closest FCS losses were 20 to UCA, 17 to TSU and SDSU. SHSU beat SELA by 70. Lamar has kept every FCS loss within 14 with the exception of a 49 point loss to SHSU. Look at what they did to McNeese. McNeese has won 6 games, lost two games by a combined 2 points, and have a 35 point loss to Sam Houston. There's something more to this team than just having the probable potential of 7 wins.

Sam Houston is playing just as good or better right now than any other team in all of the FCS. Rationalizing that they won't be in the playoffs just because they'd only have 7 wins is stupid. Considering the crowd who is doing that, I guess I'm not too surprised. The committee looks for the 10 best at-large teams. I don't know what SHSU has done to prove they're not one of those teams.

For more clarification there was not a single SHSU voter having them at #1. I'm not sure why everybody always wants to believe that there is a bunch of homer voting going on?

In those six straight wins McNeese State is the only one with a winning record. The combined records of the other five teams is 8-27 and that includes a couple of wins against D-II teams. Even more telling is their "scoring defense" rankings. Of 121 teams Tx Southern is 115th, SELA is 111th, Nicholls is 104th, SFA is 102nd (and you only beat them by 8), and Lamar is 82nd. Not exactly defensive juggernauts.

Fair enough - let's get a comparison. Let’s use the unanimous #1 seeded Bison as an example. They have a loss to #19 Indy St (7-3) and the opponents they beat are a combined 22-43. Do you agree or not agree that they should be #1 right now? I sure do. Based on your logic, you don’t think they should because their wins are against crappy opponents.

What say you?

The problem with this comparison is that NDSU already has more DI wins than SHSU will get this year with 2 games left.
