UPDATE AS OF WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2012

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Here I am again. The storm has passed. Many are profoundly affected or are busy cleaning up. We have no power on campus and one cannot predict how many days it take to restore power. Further, we are still a State Shelter for about a thousand people.

Therefore, the University will remain closed until Monday morning November 5th.

Parents Weekend activities are cancelled. Athletics Hall of Fame activities will be rescheduled.

Athletic events: Please listen to radio announcements and consult the Monmouth home page (www.Monmouth.edu) or the Athletics website (www.gomuhawks.com). Athletes please follow directions from your coaches.

Essential employees, who have been so magnificent this week and who have worked around the clock, should still confer with their supervisors regarding their schedules. When the campus re-opens we will owe you great thanks.

Due to safety, power and feeding considerations residence halls are closed to returning students without specific/prior approval from a Residence Life official.

Stay tuned for further information by email, websites, radio, Facebook and Twitter.

You stayed safe. Thank you. Now, I ask for your patience.

Paul Gaffney

President

Sad for the community-- that area was ravaged. Long Branch, Oceanport, Monmouth, Tinton Falls, Red Bank all crushed.

It puts the game into the correct perspective. That campus is right on the coast and from all the things they are showing there is likely enormous damage there.

I can only imagine how bad it is there right now. From CCSU website:

The Central Connecticut-Monmouth football game scheduled for Saturday, November 3 in West Long Branch, NJ, has been cancelled due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. School officials are discussing the possibility of a make-up date, but neither team has an open date until the end of the regular season.

Officials from both schools explored the possibility of moving the game to the CCSU campus, but the safety of the Monmouth student-athletes was the major concern.

"We sent all of our student-athletes home before the storm to make sure they were safe. At this point we are concerned with trying to get them back to campus in a safe and timely manner. " Monmouth Athletics Director Dr. Marilyn McNeil said.

"In addition, there is nowhere for them to stay on or off-campus if they were to return. We explored every option but ultimately the decision was based on student-athlete safety, and there are too many unknowns at the current time to move forward with playing the game at CCSU."

Both teams are scheduled to play at home the following week on November 10.

Could they play on Nov. 24, assuming neither make it to the playoffs?

What's extra-interesting about this is that Monmouth could still win the NEC title, technically.

What's extra-interesting about this is that Monmouth could still win the NEC title, technically. Not with the cancellation, now the best MU can do in conference is 5-2. Either Albany or Wagner will finish at least 6-2, possibly both of them. In fact Albany, Wagner and Duquesne could all finish 6-2. Monmouth needed this game to make it a 4-way tie.

+1. That's what I was trying to say.

The right decision, this is a game when it all comes down to it. And right now, the recovery efforts and safety of the entire community is issue #1

Best wishes Monmouth!
