Week 8 results are now up, new and improved. Every week guys say to me, Supe, I love what you're doing here and wish everyone would give you reppies (xlolx) but what about all these teams with the same records? How can you help me get a little bit more information about them so I can be an even more informed voter? Well, this week we've taken it a little farther. Starting this week, each teams Strength of Schedule is included in the spreadsheet (NOTE: Because there is no way for this to get updated in the 5 minutes before the last team finishing and me posting this, this is their SOS for all games played PRIOR to this week). So if two teams are 5-2 and you're saying to yourself, gee Supe, which one is the better team? You can scroll over (BTW: I locked the ranks/teams so you can scroll without losing your place) and check out their SOS. Clearly I am in no way suggesting this is the be all, end all tie-breaker you should use. Common sense, your own opinion, and numerous other factors still come into play. But it is one more tool for your belt.

Also, when looking at the teams listing under the "D1 Wins" column, you may notice some color added. If the team is in a participating conference, GREEN means they have the 7 D1 wins needed to be considered, YELLOW means they have to win out to get 7 D1 wins, and RED means thanks for participating. This has nothing really to do with where you should/could rank teams but is just one more convenience to make us your weekly One Stop Shop for the FCS Top.

If you see any errors, let me know.

Nice, but Richmond is 2-2 versus the AGS top 25 not 1-1. Neat Nova and JMU, lost to ODU and UNH.

As soon as I give you reppies.... Eastern Kentucky won 42-28, not a 28-20 L...

Could it be based on when they played them? I think wins over Montana & UNI when they were ranked still count....Therefore, the Nova W and UNH L may be your omissions....

ODU is 2-1, not 2-0, against the AGS Top 25...although I think they will be 3-1 if UR enters the poll this week.

They have wins against #14 UNH, #20 Towson, ORV Richmond, and a loss against #23 Villanova. Nova and Richmond weren't ranked when we played them.

We were both wrong, haha. Villanova wasn't ranked when they played, but it looks like I forgot to penalize them for the UNH loss last week.

Week 5: Lost at #3 Old Dominion
Week 7: Lost at #14 New Hampshire
Week 8: Won vs #2 Richmond

Villanova was ranked #34 at the time of the game. They had worked their way up to #27 before falling to Richmond in Week 6. Then they defeated Old Dominion and moved up into the Top 25.

Wouldn't it make more sense to update the "vs. Top 25" part every week to reflect on the current Top 25? Unless I'm misunderstanding something, if a team beats #6 in week 1 and #6 ends up going winless, would that still count as a Top 25 win at the end of the season?

Totally agree. Does the fact that Richmond beat Villanova when they were unranked make it any less valuable of a win?

As is explained every year, no other poll/ranking/etc does them that way. The FCS isn't the BCS, but since that is the easiest example in a more apples to apples way, the vs Top 25 there is done the same way. If it was a Top 25 win then, it is still a Top 25 win. If they drop out or work their way in later, doesn't matter. Even with only have 40 teams this week which is the lowest we've ever had, it still took several hours to complete and going back to look at 280 games (40 teams/7 prior games) and see where they are now would be too much added time for me between work and other obligations. I've never claimed the system to be perfect, but it is consistent.

And at the behest of jmufan999, the FBS column has been changed from FBS Wins to FBS Record, and now displays both wins and losses against FBS teams.
