You can see how it would really help to have even just one more football team in the PL. Most years you don't have 12 games, but even finding 5 OOC games is an absolute bear. The 9 team/3 OOC game conference size is truly ideal in most 11-game years.

For another thread: BU and Loyola (MD) unquestionably could sponsor football if they so chose. Wouldn't that solve most of the PL's "problems" with football? Holy Cross/BU and Georgetown/Loyola even have the potential to be interesting end-of-the-year rivalry games. Holy Cross/BU was even a yearly contest in the 1950's, 60's, and 70's - they played 40 or so times.

Of course, but the PL puts little or no pressure on members after they join because they are afraid of losing them. Does anyone think the PL has lobbied Georgetown to add scholarships or fix its field as a condition of membership? Does anyone at Center Valley look at the number of men's sports American sponsors in the league (5) and pushes for AU to step things up?

Nickerson Field is still football ready. The Ridley Complex would accomodate football as well. All that is lacking is the will.

The will..and of course, money. Seems I've heard BUMA is or was highly leveraged, with bonds at junk level. But at least Silber's gone.

Don't think Loyola's ever had football, and with fewer than 4,000 undergrads, starting it up would be a major effort.

In 2011, BU had a higher bond rating (A2) than Georgetown (A3).

Understand that SHU has Bucknell and Lafayette from the the PL. Other OOC games for SHU look like Delaware St and Marist. With 7 conference games not sure if that is it for an 11 game schedule or if there is going to be a 12th. Sorry, can't help you with any dates or locations.

Thanks for the heads-up. Quirkily, Bucknell and Lafayette have three common OOC openings: 8/31, 9/7, and 9/28. Marist has all the same plus 9/14! Delaware State's doesn't clear anything up either just yet.

This also makes me wonder about Georgetown's last OOC game(s). St. Francis (PA)? Albany? Villanova? A Big South school?

Citadel schedule officially released yesterday.

31 Aug - Charleston Southern 6:00 PM
7 Sep - Wofford 6:00 PM
14 Sep - at Western Carolina TBA
21 Sep - at Old Dominion TBA
28 Sep - Furman 6:00 PM
5 Oct - Appalachian State 2:00 PM
12 Oct - at Georgia Southern TBA
19 Oct - OPEN
26 Oct - at Chattanooga TBA
2 Nov - Samford - Homecoming 2:00 PM
9 Nov - at Elon TBA
16 Nov - VMI 1:00 PM
23 Nov - at Clemson TBA

Not a bad schedule. Like last year, I really don't like Chas So and VMI both for SOS. We lost the second FBS (ECU) game we had had for ODU which is a good road game. I like getting Wofford early in the season. App St and Ga So will be tough no matter when, after last year, and we get them back to back, again. The open date is also well placed. We only lose a few starters. It will be an interesting season in the SOCON next year.

It is not "official," but the word is that LAFAYETTE has plugged Sacred Heart in as a home opener to complete the schedule. This places a theoretically* winnable game the week before W&M, who will have already played two opponents before arriving in Easton. A good move.

SEPTEMBER
7 SACRED HEART
14 WILLIAM & MARY
21 at Pennsylvania
28 Open

OCTOBER
5 BUCKNELL
12 at Princeton
19 at Harvard
26 at Holy Cross

NOVEMBER
2 at Georgetown
9 COLGATE
16 FORDHAM
23 at Lehigh (149)

*Of course, any program that can lose to RMU and 3 straight to Georgetown has proven that they can lose to absolutely anyone. Losing is what we do, and we're getting dambed good at it.

That 's a rough schedule--one home game betwen Sept. 14 and Nov. 9.

Why doesn't Tavani add another home game on Sept. 28?

That 's a rough schedule--one home game betwen Sept. 14 and Nov. 9.

Why doesn't Tavani add another home game on Sept. 28?

Five home games has become the norm on College Hill. No explanations and no discernible logic, but it has become standard practice. Good crowds (by PL standards) and a great venue sitting unused. Go figure. I'm betting that what we see here is what we get. I'm also betting that our new female president won't be wishing she had a home football game to attend on all those Saturdays.

By the way, 9/28 was originally supposed to be Yale @ home. Don't know what happened there.

It's increasingly looking like Colgate is the only school which will have 12 games. I say this because I don't think there's any way they have bye weeks on both 9/28 and 10/12.

Coach Ford said at halftime of a basketball game that Albany now has Old Dominion on the schedule for 2013.....still has CCSU but that URI is actually the stadium opening on the 14th so I'm not sure when the CCSU game will be.

Furman's in, and Grambling's about to be in. Furman's didn't clarify the rest of the SoCon, and we'll see if Grambling's helps at all with the SWAC.

The only schedule that's a hot mess right now is the MVFC, which is paying for the fact that the WIU and UNI schedules (and others) are based on thirdhand information. I'll go through that too and update it.

Not sure about Yale but agree with your point overall. If this had been our schedule 3 or more years ago it would have been downright goofy since we would not have belonged on the field. With a full complement of scholarship players we should do fine/compete against all but Temple imo. That said, we're still only 2 years removed from a disastrous 1-10 campaign AND we don't have a tune-up game in there at all. I liked having a DII last year to get things going, followed by a play-up game (for us) in 'Nova.

We'll see but overall I'm very pleased to see us with a schedule like this.

This seems logical since it solves the WIU vs. Indiana State game on 11/9. This puts WIU vs. Indiana State on 11/16 and WIU vs. UNI on 11/23. The WIU schedule maybe was a typo: 11/9 and 11/16 were really 11/16 and 11/23 after a bye week. That's how I'm going to put them in my schedules.

A little more clarity on the Ford interview:

1. We will have two NEC teams on our schedule.

Additionally:

Southern Illinois can't play a conference game on 10/26. It's either a OOC game or (more likely) a bye week.

Southern Illinois can only play Illinois State on 9/14, 11/9, or 11/23. Seems logical that it would be on 11/9 provided SIU plays Indiana State on 11/23.

Additionally, oft-SIU OOC opponent Eastern Illinois only has 9/7 or 9/21 open. My guess is that they are playing SIU on 9/21. Critically they have 10/26 booked.

Illinois State could play Indiana State on 9/21, 9/28, 10/19 or 11/23. Likely playing on 10/19 but have to wait and see.
Missouri State could play Indiana State on 9/14, 9/28, 11/2 or 11/23. Best guess is they're playing on 11/2.

http://www.college-sports-journal.com/index.php/fcs-information-center/conf-scheds-2013/ovc-sched-2013

Of particular note:

Austin Peay has 11 games (1 potential OOC)
EIU has 12 games
EKU has 12 games
Jacksonville State has 10 games (2 potential OOC)
Murray State has 11 games (1 potential OOC)
SEMO has 10 games (2 potential OOC)
Tennessee State has 11 games (1 potential OOC but they've announced their schedule already)
Tenessee Tech has 10 games (2 potential OOC)
UT Martin has 11 games (1 potential OOC but they've announced their schedule already)

Thanks to nwFL Griz as always for the big-time assist!

Few more items for the OVC,

Rumor is Austin Peay's 12th game is on the road at Chatty on Sep 14.
Jacksonville St is apparently hosting Jacksoonville on Sep 7th.
SEMO is at Ole Miss on Sep 7th.
For whatever reason, UT Martin has left the Nov 9th slot blankon their site, but it has been reported (by several sources) for some time that they will travel to Memphis on that date.

With an 11-team CAA and keeping a 8-game conference schedule, I assume the CAA is using the old BigTen model.

Each team is assigned 2 "rivals" which would be played every year, and you would skip a pair opponents from the remaining 8 teams for a 2-year period.

Richmond
Rivals - W&M, JMU (?)
Skipped - UNH, 'Nova

Delaware
Rivals - 'Nova, Towson (?)
Skipped - UNH, SBU

New Hampshire
Rivals - Maine, (?)
Skipped - Richmond, Delaware

It is getting hard to tell that Delaware & UNH play in the same conference. With the 2013-2014 skipped years it means they will have only played 1 conference game in the 7 year stretch 2008-2014. One would think that might have influenced the scheduling, but apparently not.

Hope 'yall are right, but I wonder just how much the Panthers will be improved under the new staff? Also, our OOC game with Southeastern looks pretty scary considering those FBS xfers that they are giddy about. This former Oregon QB seems to be the real deal. As for us, who knows what the NCAA will rule about another year for Summerlin. So far there is still no word on our QB.

Looking forward to playing you guys ... should be a good non-conference test for both programs. I've been to Samford's campus many times, going back some 20 years when we were both in the old TAAC conference. We didn't have football then but had some barn burners in hoops and baseball.

I don't know if y'all had room short notice. We only found out FAU and MTSU were leaving early last week. And it's only been a rumor for about a month.

I agree it'll be a tough game against Samford for our squad. I wouldn't totally count us out though. The new coaching staff seems to be doing much much better than the last right out the gate. We'll see about their coaching ability, but if ISU is any indication, they'll have us on the right path in short order. I still believe we have the talent on our team to win, we just didn't have the leadership in the coaching staff to do anything with it.

Don't know if we're "giddy" about the FBS transfers (Bryan Bennett, RB Kody Sutton - Wyoming, DB Devante Davis - North Texas) that are here, but we are pretty excited after last year's improvement under Ron Roberts. We started out pretty poorly, but got better as the year went along (throw out UAB, Sam Houston State) ... Bryan Bennett will add another dimension at QB that we have never had and we do return a lot of key players from last year's team. Need to find replacements for DB Robert Alford (Senior Bowl) and LB Devan Walker (Texas vs. Nation Game), but we were pretty deep at those positions. Just need someone to step up.

Looking forward to seeing a game at Seibert again as I saw a few games there in the late 90's when I lived in Birmingham. Also looking forward to watching DB Jaquiski Tartt in person. A great town and a beautiful campus (the best one I've seen, especially with Shades Mountain nearby ... and then there's the trip to ...

Not really 'dropping in favor of', as that is now a conference game for them. ESPN is looking to fill that labor day night slot, and the ACC has approached Pitt/FSU about it. Plus, the game would be at Heinz field, so not really 'going down to play at' either. They could still squeeze you in.

Updated the Big South schedules again with Presbyterian and VMI's "unofficial" schedule:

http://www.college-sports-journal.com/index.php/fcs-information-center/conf-scheds-2013/big-south-sched-2013

I was pretty liberal in regards to moving the schools around, but I think my configuration is the only one that makes sense. Also, it seems likely (but not definite) that Liberty vs. Chuck South will happen on 11/23.

Well, you got Coastal playing both VMI and GWU on 10/26. If you make GWU/CCU on 10/19, then slide Liberty/GWU to 10/26 then I think it all fits perfect.

Thanks a lot, I will do that. GWU's schedule has been a PAIN in the *** to reconfigure. I've exposed something like six conflicts from their schedule I keep needing to move around. Not GWU's fault, but every time I think it's perfect, GWU's schedule has a problem that needs solving.

Problem with THAT is that GWU is actually the season finale for both Liberty and GWU on 11/23 so youd probably have to put LU-CSU on 10/26 which means LU would be playing its homecoming game on 10/19 (unless CCU is the homecoming game on 10/12)

How could that be? Presbyterian announced their schedule already and they are the season finale for GWU. I think you need to confer with Libertine, sounds like he has Liberty's schedule already.

I'll check with him but what that does is it moves G-W (according to our tentative schedule on the FlameFans board and LFN's Block Schedule matrix) to 10/26, and based on PC's release, puts Coastal on 10/12, moves Charleston Southern to 10/19 and means that Liberty will probably have to close the season with two non-conference games (if Im cross referencing correctly)...oh and LFN needs to update both Monmouth and Liberty's listings since it was announced in a press release for the Hawks moving to the Big South in 2014 that theyd be playing on 09/07

I think you'll be impressed with them this year. With Sam returning a bunch of good players and the fact it took a miracle bounce last year to beat McNeese, it will be very difficult to make the playoffs IMO. Sucks that IW counts as a D2..but the conference has scheduled us to play them in transition just as we were the transition team not long ago. If UCA loses one game all regular season it will be hard to leave them out...minus the Colorado game of course. xlolx

Is it just me, or is there a renaissance of sub-D-I games this season with the 12-game schedule? With this new one, I count 43 already announced, and I fully anticipate more on the way. For comparison, to date there are 104 FCS vs. FBS matchups.

Last year there were 56 sub-D-I games involving FCS teams.

Last year there were 56 sub-D-I games involving FCS teams.

In the last 12-game season for FCS (2008), there were actually 98 games between FCS and sub-D1 programs. In fact, 25 FCS teams played multiple sub-D1 games. Part of that had to do with a number of now-FCS programs still being in transition from DII -- South Dakota played 5 sub-D1 that year -- but the fact is that more games to play means more dates to fill especially in the smaller conferences. Thus it has been and thus it shall always be.

Del State vs. FAMU on 11/9 or 11/16
Del State vs. Morgan State on 11/9, 11/16 or 11/23
Del State vs. NCAT on 8/31, 10/19 or 11/9
Del State vs. SCSU on 10/19 or 11/9

It is not impossible that Del State vs. Morgan State isn't on 11/23, but I am adding that and Del State vs. FAMU on 11/16 since the possibilities are so likely. No other possible MEAC games are on that date and I'm assuming Del State doesn't have a BYE there.

FAMU vs. Morgan State on 9/7, 9/14, 10/5, 11/9 (+ 11/16)
FAMU vs. NCAT on 9/7, 10/5, 10/26, 11/9
FAMU vs. SCSU on 10/5, 11/9 (+ 11/16)

I think you are right on with dsu/msu being 11/23.

I don't believe DSU is playing SCSU this year. That would give both 9 MEAC games.

If I'm guessing how these lay out, I would go with:

10/19 DSU@NCAT
11/16 DSU@FAMU
11/23 MSU@DSU

9/14 FAMU@MSU
10/5 FAMU@SCSU
10/26 NCAT@FAMU

10/5 NCAT@MSU
11/16 MSU@SCSU

11/9 NCAT@SCSU

FYI, NCAT is hosting Virginia University-Lynchburg for their homecoming on 11/2.

only thing it would change would be one less home game. I don't think playing a pioneer or meac school proves anything. they have possibly the best team in school history, why not prove it and take on anyone. Even if they open with 2 losses they can still be 1 of the best teams in the FCS. bank the payday and save the money to get future home games. And as far as we know there are barely any future home games set up. Montana next year and Western Carolina in 2016 if they still have a football team. That's 4 home games over the next 3 years that need to be scheduled if they want to stick with the 6 home games philosophy.

As for Nova, who apparently has an agreement for an FBS game in place, is rumored to be considering either Army on 8/31 or Syracuse on 9/14. Army, though, has a game with Morgan State on 8/31, so I have no idea why Army keeps popping up. My feeling is that Nova will play Syracuse on 9/14, consistent with all this ACC-related shuffling that's going on.

Army is open 11/16 though.

Just added the Nova/BC and Wagner/Syracuse games and removed the Wofford/Florida State and SBU/BC games from the list.

Underreported is the fact that Florida State moved in a 9/21 game against Bethune-Cookman. That gives the Wildcats 2 FBS games and a 12 game schedule.

It also bumped FSUs game against Nevada to 9/14...but what happens with the UC Davis/Nevada game now?

EDIT: Nevada/UC Davis moved to 9/7. So I am going to assume that the NAU/UCDavis game just moves to 9/14 now.

Seeing some debate over our opener at BC. Nova released a schedule listing the game as Fri 8/30, while all the BC fans are claiming its Sat 8/31. My gut says the BC fans are probably right, seeing as we didn't even but the correct location, instead just listed Boston,MA.

Personally I hope it's Saturday, because there is no way I will be able to make it to Boston for a 7:00pm kickoff leaving after class is over

The Dukes must have got a waiver from the NEC to schedule a non-DI team.

Personally, I think its fine, especially if its their 12th game. Even if they schedule just 11 games, this year scheduling must have been a nightmare for NEC coaches/ADs to deal with considering 3 schools fell off the league schedule (UA, URI, and MU). It appears that CCSU was able to keep all 3 on their schedule, but I'm not sure all the NEC teams were able to make that happen.

My quick take on the OOC games.

Alabama State-A short drive for me, closer than going to Jacksonville and I get to see their new stadium. Also, a return trip by them next year should bring a good crowd. Suck it, Sam Houston.

Jacksonville-A Pioneer League team should be an easy win but won't look good on our playoff resume. But the match up is good for laughs if nothing else.

UNA-A DII game that won't help with playoffs either, but reviving an old Gulf South rival will help at the box office.

Georgia State-Another short drive and a very winnable game. Maybe I'll pick up some extra cash if I find any left over from the money drop.

Let's just hope TSU shows up.
That would be a nightmare. What would we do? Try to pick up another DII game? I bet finding a FCS/FBS this late would be rather difficult.

If TSU actually shows up, I'm going to go a little easy on them. At least they have the balls to step into Bowers.

Didn't you guys lose darnell and family? Who's his replacement? I'm stoked about conque's OTAs and his new view of what it takes to win a championship. Read this short short article and it'll give you a heads up on what he has coming back and what he looks forward to this year. With UCA going 6-1 three years in conference, and looking at that schedule, I see a possible share of the conference again. Kool-aid.

Our secondary definitely took the hardest hit. We lost all of our starters except Sneed, one of our corners.
At LB, the likely addition of Tanner Brock along with the return of Beauchamp, possibly Felio (serious injury in 2012) and some of the underclassmen, we should be set and very strong at that position.
Our DL will stay intact.
We also kept our DC Stoker for at least another year.

On OL we lost a few but after watching the back-ups perform during the EWU game, I'm not the least bit worried. Only a few minutes into the game we lost both our tackles. The line shifted to the point were only one starter remained in position. They performed very well, especially considering the circumstances.
Bell and Sincere will be back, we also have quality back-ups.
Flanders, Hill & Frank will be back. Wilson will be back if he can get healthy (hip injury). We also have some good recruits who haven't had much opportunity. Our backfield is STACKED
At WR, Nelson will be back. Last year was his first year with the program and he made huge impact. Hopefully a healthy Torrence Williams will be back, he only played in 2 games last year (SELA & NDSU). He was a beast his sophomore season and is said to be the fastest on the team. Hopefully we use Sincere as a receiver more. We also saw some good things out of Wilkerson and Smith last year.
We lost both TE's but we saw enough action out of Young that I'm not too worried.
It will be our OC's second year.

We lost our K & P but our highest ranked recruit is a K/P so I feel our kicking game should improve.

Overall, I think we will put up big numbers on offense. There is a lot of experience and talent at the skill positions. Defensively, it will be hard to run against Kats next year but I'm definitely worried about our inexperienced secondary. Especially with our style of defense. I can't wait for the Fall.

The Bears look very strong as well. I'm so happy this game is the last conference game instead of the first!

We both might bite the dust early so that last game might be for the tailgating for all we know. xlolx

I don't know about your running D...its Wynricks senior year and he enjoyed roaming free in your secondary. xlolx Your corners are the ones that got burned the most in our game. Conque is looking like he's going to the pass game more this coming year since we are thin at RB (only one returning). Your elder statesman Flanders can have 300 yards rushing on us in the first half...it seems to negate him in the second which is always to our advantage. xlolx

Based on the following Feb 20 entry on footballscoop, Lafayette is looking to schedule a 12th game and has apparently found a match:

Lafayette College (FCS): Lafayette College is looking for an FCS opponent to schedule a Home and Home for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The 2013 game can be played either August 31, 2013 or Sept 28, 2013. If interested please contact Frank Tavani at [email protected] or 610-330-5485. Update> Lafayette has received plenty of interest and is in the process of working out a contract. Thank you for your interest.

Anyone have info? Thanks.

Five schools, Butler, Davidson, Drake, Mercer, and Stetson, of the twelve PFL teams have multiple sub D-Is. Four schools, Campbell, San Diego, Jacksonville, and Morehead State, have multiple FCS schools as OOC games. Awaiting Dayton, Marist and Valpo to see what their OOC schedules look like.

San Diego has Cal Poly and Harvard on the docket and could schedule up to 2 more games. They are unannounced I believe.

1. The A&T vs. SC State game 10/05 is expected to be moved to Atlanta for the AFC and may be moved to 09/28.

Makes sense that they hit the road the first 2 weeks just to ensure the satdium is complete and ready for play. It's not an awful non-conf schedule for a team that will have its hands full in the CAA.

In 2014 Albany will return to CCSU and Duquesne comes back to Albany - that 2 NEC opponents for next year. So that leaves UA with 2 more games to schedule next season (assuming that the 2-year Colgate deal is complete and ODU was a 1-year buy game).

Crickets so far. The consensus opinion is that nobody wants to come to Fargo this year and they are trying to hold out for a home game first.

NDSU won't schedule a DII so they are a little hemmed in.

Which is bunk.

Not playing an 11th game and playing a DII team in Fargo both count the same in the playoff committee's eyes: no game played.

Can't accept anything less than a 6th home game, need the revenue too much. Schedule the damn DII. If NDSU doesn't win the MVFC outright they don't deserve to go to the playoffs anyway and home playoff games don't do us any good from revenue standpoint either. NCAA takes that money.
