Okay so whether you agree with this or not I am going to post it. I really just have fun doing this so here they are again. Hopefully this year I will actually continue throughout the year. Currently there are only 5 of the 6 computer ratings since one of them is not released until Oct 14th.

For those who haven't seen this before all I have done is used the BCS formula only calculated it for FCS schools. I think it does a pretty good job. As always go ahead and let me know you opinion. Just know it is not going to change the way I formulate this since I just adapted it from the FBS BCS formula. If you would like to know more about it just ask and I can let you know more about it.

I don't doubt this is about as close as you're going to get at getting it right "computer-wise"....that being said, I've seen both Lehigh and Harvard play a couple times this year, Harvard's a lot better.

Nice! Looks good! Luckily mplsbison is banned for the week so you won't have to hear how worthless you are for posting/believing/having fun with computer-based rankings! :)

Yeah. Lehigh benefits from being much stronger in the Human polls, but Harvard is much stronger in the Computer polls.

Yeah he especially hates the BCS so I know where he stands on this.

How is it computed?

I use the same formula as the BCS. Here: http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/bcs_explained.html

I use the AGS and Sports Network poll. I then use 6 computers that all rank FCS schools. I think 3 of the ones used in the regular BCS do not rank FCS. I use the Sagarin ELO-Chess ranking, and Massey BCS ranking instead of their regular rankings because those are what is used in the normal BCS.

I'm kind of surprised to see Montana State ahead of Eastern Washington. I guess that will get sorted out on Saturday.

Montana State is actually stronger in both Human and Computer polls.

1) Thanks for doing the work ... pretty interesting.

2) I am so glad this is not how we determine our national champ.

how is this compared to the GPI index?

and when does that first come out?

Are non DI games included in the calculations?

Touche, but I have seen both Lehigh and Harvard in other games this year and going by the "eye test"...Harvard is clearly stronger.

Too bad they won't play anybody remotely tough all year. The insular world of Ivy football, at least the SWAC has some balls.

CSN's GPI was released today. http://www.collegesportingnews.com/content.php?822-2012-Gridiron-Power-Index-(GPI)-Debuts-With-the-Reigning-Champ-as-No.-1

I would have to go through each of the 6 computer rankings to find out. All I do I plug the rankings into a predetermined formula. I would imagine not, but again I would have to look at the 6 computers individually.

Apparently the GPI came out today. Someone posted it in here.

I was looking at last years GPI and noticed it should be somewhat similar to these rankings. It uses most of the same computers. The difference is GPI uses the coaches poll and I use AGS poll. I also think they use regular Massey and Sagarin rankings which I do not. I am also not quite sure how they compute it whether it is in a similar manner or not. Looking at the rankings though they are pretty close with a few minor differences.
