View Full Version : Southland Conference Week 7 Predictions

BEAR
October 8th, 2012, 09:51 AM
Games this week:

Northwestern St. at Southeastern La. 3:00 PM
Sam Houston St. at Nicholls St. 6:00 PM
Central Arkansas at McNeese St. 7:00 PM
McMurry University at Lamar 7:00 PM
SFA vs. Bye U. 0:00 PM

I'm going....

SELA, SAM, CARK, LU

Overall standings:..then my predictions after this week. xlolx

Southeastern La. 2 - 0 (after this week, 3-0)
Central Arkansas 2 - 1 (after this week 3-1)
McNeese St. 1 - 1 (after this week 1-2)
Sam Houston St. 1 - 1 (after this week 2-1)
Northwestern St. 1 - 1 (after this week 1-2)
Stephen F. Austin 1 - 1 (same)
Nicholls St. 0 - 1 (after this week 0-2)
Lamar 0 - 2 (same)

So after this week it could be:
SELA
UCA
SAM
SFA (only here because of few SLC games played, not W/L record, that'll change)
McNeese
Northwestern
Lamar

Does anybody else see the importance of this weeks matchups but me? xlolx

Big questions:

1. Is McNeese healthy again?
2. Can UCA get its offense rolling and its defense awake BEFORE the second half at LC? (they'd better)
3. Is McMurry an UNOFFICIAL member of the SLC? I've seen that name SOOO many times!
4. Is SELA for real?
5. IF SELA wins, they're 3-0 in conference...whodathunk?!
6. Will the red beans and rice bowl return on the bus back to Conway?
7. Wait, the Cowboys finally get UCA at their place???!!! (Amazing xlolx )
8. Will SAM stop the Colonels from passing over the middle?
9. Will the SAM/Nich game be under 50 pts? (I doubt it)
10. Will the SFA uniforms and field EVER dry out?
11. Will this clusterCardinal work itself out after this week?

Murderers row:
UCA is on its last leg of the 3 game "row" coming out 1-1 so far. Cowboys this week.
SFA is also 1-1 with McNeese left in a couple of weeks.
SHSU is 1-1 too but gets McNeese at home...only to see Texas A&M not long after. Yikes.
McNeese plays UCA this weekend, then SFA and SHSU...they are just starting the "row". Yikes.

Playoffs predictions:

Depends on these next few weeks. It's still VERY undecided.

If Sam wins out but loses to Texas A&M, They will have a division I record of 7-3, 6-1 in SLC.
If UCA wins out they will have a division I record of 8-2, 6-1 in SLC.
If SFA wins out they will have a division I record of 6-4, 6-1 in SLC.
If McNeese wins out they will have a division I record of 8-1, 6-1 in the SLC.
If SELA wins out...well they're SLC champions AND 7-0 in conference. xlolx

Of course the scenarios above WILL NOT happen because of the games but those are best case scenarios for each team. Which team has the best chance to make that scenario happen? Aside from SELA winning out, UCA and McNeese will have the magical 7 wins to be considered for the playoffs..that's why this weekends game UCA at McNeese is huge for the SLC. If UCA beats McNeese and Sam runs the table, it could be SAM and UCA in the playoffs. If McNeese wins, then Sam beats McNeese, what another clustercardinal we have to end the year. UCA will have to win out to be eligible, so will McNeese (agaist SFA and SAM) and SAM better not have ANY slip ups. GEEZ what MESS!

If SELA and SFA win out, those two are the possible playoff teams (SFA having been out of the playoff the longest I believe is the rule)

Any more questions? xlolx

Northwestern St. at Southeastern La. 3:00 PM - Only if the Lions can put that UAB abomination behind them

Sam Houston St. at Nicholls St. 6:00 PM - Sam has too many guns for this one, but AGS

Central Arkansas at McNeese St. 7:00 PM - Cowboys should be healthy enough after a week off. If they keep from giving it away in the first half like the last two trips to Conway, then they should prevail.

McMurry University at Lamar 7:00 PM - Warhawks are pretty weak and even LU should be able to pull this one off

SFA vs. Bye U. 0:00 PM - Close call but I will go with the purple

Winners
Southeastern La.
Sam Houston St.
McNeese St.
Lamar

Big questions:

1. Is McNeese healthy again? Depends on the outcome of the game. If they lose of course they are banged up.

2. Can UCA get its offense rolling and its defense awake BEFORE the second half at LC? They have a defense?

3. Is McMurry an UNOFFICIAL member of the SLC? I've seen that name SOOO many times! No, SHSU doesn't play them but then again the Kats have the tendency to play up a level which could hurt this year.

4. Is SELA for real? Who have they beat? That should answer your question.

5. IF SELA wins, they're 3-0 in conference...whodathunk?! Haven't played the big 3 yet. Oh wait, they played McNeese but they were all injured.

6. Will the red beans and rice bowl return on the bus back to Conway? Hope not that would be a long bus trip back.

7. Wait, the Cowboys finally get UCA at their place???!!! They have one heck of a tailgate, hopefully the fans are healthy.

8. Will SAM stop the Colonels from passing over the middle? The Colonels can pass? Oh, no.

9. Will the SAM/Nich game be under 50 pts? (I doubt it) Sam will score 50 and will also give up a big play or two so no way this game is under 50.

10. Will the SFA uniforms and field EVER dry out? The field might but the tears from the BOTPW will keep the uniforms damp.

11. Will this clusterCardinal work itself out after this week? Nope.

Guess holding SAM to 20 was good enough defense. xcoffeex

The SLC has some really good defensive players this year..but hardly a team has a complete team defense. I'll go find the stats. xlolx

Good enough. Sam was averaging over 6 yards a carry and why we didn't keep running in the 2nd half, I will never know. I haven't been impressed with any D in the SLC so far including Sam's.

I'm out for the tailgate and the game. I have one of those evening wedding injuries. xthumbsdownx

Looking over the stats for players of the year so far IMO:
Offensive Player of the year: Cordell Roberson, Sr. SFA- no doubts so far. He's like a man playing the game against boys.
Defensive Player of the year: Geez, toss up.
Freshman of the year: Johnathan Woodard, Fr. UCA. Leads conference in sacks, TFL, fumbles recovered, and #6 in Fumbles forced. He's got potential and is only a freshman.

I can tell you why. I watched Sincere and Flanders on the sideline..they were huffing and puffing and trying to catch their breath. That happens when you run it like they did with a mix of getting punched in the stomach by the d-line. Either your coach saw what I did and let them rest OR that was purely bad coaching...and since you guys made it to the big game last year, surely it wasn't coaching....maybe too many burritos in the off-season? xlolx

Who schedules a wedding the same time as a McNeese game? Seriously? xlolx Gotta get their priorities straight...xlolx

No doubt about it, he even makes Attaway look good.

SFA needs Sam to step on their jocks (that apparently are on the outside of their pants) again. Probably won't happen against Nicholls but McNeese historically has owned Sam. I think Sam is like 10-41 against McNeese.

Then again, SFA has to win out, which we did last year after the BOTPW but I'm not confident about it.

Perhaps it was the Arky altitude or their eyes were visually impaired because of that field? Conditioning didn't seem to be a problem for either this week. Maybe they worked those burritos off in two weeks? When your coaches play not to lose thats when you usually do. Sam should of never let off the gas and that is what happened. Maybe that great UCA D showed up in the 2nd half but it didn't seem that way to me.

I agree but I like the fact that this game (homecoming) and the SELA game are the only remaining games at Bowers. The Kats have lost only one game at Bower's since Fritz took over and that was to McNeese but I like our chances this time around.

I totally agree!!!

Both my sons got married this year. One in March and one in April. They were brought up right.

Sammy rushing in second half:

3rd qtr.
1st poss: 3 rush 9 yards
2nd poss: 1 rush minus 4 yards
3rd poss: 4 rush 17 yards (continued in 4th qtr)

4th qtr:
3rd poss cont: 4 rush 30 yards
1st poss: 9 rush 58 yards
2nd poss: 2 rush 0 yards
3rd poss: 0 rush 0 yards

Flanders had 3 rushes in the second quarter of 1, 2 and 2 yards. That was the second quarter! Flanders had 98 yards of rushing in the 1st quarter alone. Maybe that's when I saw him on the sideline. xlolx Coach went to Flanders 14 more times after that and 17 more rush plays by 5 different ball carriers. 44 rushes overall compared to 24 pass plays and most of those pass plays were in the last Sam sequence (9 of them). Coach didn't give up on running the ball...just nothing was coming out of doing it...passing neither apparently. Great game by both teams though.
