Towson at LSU, Mr. C's Official Game Thread

Mr. C is packing up stuff at the hotel and ready to head over to Tiger Stadium a.k.a. Death Valley for the Towson-LSU game. Buses leave here in about a half-hour. It would be nice to see something historical tonight.

I love all three of those venues. Three of my favorites. Probably all in my personal top-20. Actually the structure of Franklin Field and Tiger Stadium are quite similar. They are old stadiums that have been renovated many times. Granted, LSU has a sparkling new press box since the last time I was here and has 92,542 seats (it has been here since 1924) and looks prettier on the inside, but all of the stadium of that era are pretty similar. I've been to the Rose Bowl (home of the world's slowest elevator), the LA Coliseum, Tennessee, Michigan Stadium. Franklin Field just needs a new press box and some luxury boxes.

I have found the fans here to be great on both of my visits. Supportive, rather than nasty. And the people of Baton Rouge are some of the most polite people you will ever meet.

It is pouring down rain here, which is something that Towson coach Rob Ambrose was hoping for. Could slow down LSU a bit and weird things can happen with a wet ball.

It is always interesting to see who you will getting a seating assignment next to on some of these trips. I am sitting tonight next to Armin Keteyian of 60 Minutes. 60 Minutes is doing a piece in late October on the haves and have-nots of college football, supposedly focusing on Towson and Alabama. The 60 Minutes crew traveled with us this weekend and has been filming everywhere. Interesting experience.

The announcer just said "Here come the Tigers." Was he talking about the LSU Tigers, or the Towson Tigers?

Incidently, this is only the second time in Towson history that the football team has played another school named the Tigers. The first time was against Hampton-Sydney. This is the second time in TWO weeks that LSU has played another team called the Tigers, having beaten Auburn last week.

Been well fed all weekend from the Towson buffets at the hotel, but tonight's press meal was some tasty pulled pork barbecue and some great footlong hot dogs. There will be more food at halftime and still more food after the game in the LSU press box. Some of the most hospitable people you will ever meet down here.

One of the great things about getting to a different region of the country is the chance to bump into people in the business you've enjoyed working with in the past. Just talked to Scooter Hobbs of the Lake Charles American Press and am on the lookout for one of my favorite all-time FCS writers, ex-McNeese State writer Gary Laney (who stopped by as I was writing this).

Yep, he was backing up Dominic Randolph, went to a JC for a year and then came to Towson. Enders has one more year left and could work himself into an NFL tryout before it is all said and done. He is much stronger physically this season and has improved his arm strength, though he hasn't been that sharp throwing tonight against a very good, aggressive defense.

The announcer just said "Here come the Tigers." Was he talking about the LSU Tigers, or the Towson Tigers?

Incidently, this is only the second time in Towson history that the football team has played another school named the Tigers. The first time was against Hampton-Sydney. This is the second time in TWO weeks that LSU has played another team called the Tigers, having beaten Auburn last week.

That would be Dan Borne - one of the best ones around.
