I'm surprised there are no comments to this.

I am actually intersted in hearing from the Stephen F Austin fans. They come to Bozeman this year. Lets hear how your team is looking. Anyone coming up for it? Looking forward to seeing how our young tackles handle their DE Willie Jefferson and how our secondary handles their two pre-season all conference WR's.

My opinion...SFA will be MUCH improved this year - they finished strong by winning their last 5. Jacks had a tough stretch of UNI, Baylor, Tx State, UCA & Sam (3 FCS playoff teams, FBS & FBS future). Will be tough to win in Bozeman but the fact that it's in September sure helps.

I'm surprised there are no comments to this.

Why is that? When one team has 19 players listed or 34% of the list that speaks for itself.

I also think SFA will be a bit better this year but they also have another tough stretch in the schedule this year also. Speaking of last year, when Lamar, SELA, and Nicholls are 3 of the 5 teams to finish out a schedule winning their last 5 games isn't much of a statement.
I think MSU wins easily in Bozeman.

I think the pickings are pretty slim when a qb that only completes 57% of his passes is the 1st stringer but it is a preseason list and means nothing. It will all be settled on the field :)

I was actually shocked Bell was on the list at all. I thought Attaway should be 1st team especially with who he has to throw to. I think Bell will be much better this year but I don't agree with the first team selection.

All they do is take the post-season All-Conference list from last year and fill in the pre-season list with those returning. If you were 1st team in 2011, you start the season 1st team. If there's a vacant slot due to graduation or departure, they bump up a returning 2nd teamer, etc.

I'm pretty sure the post-season list will include names not listed here.

I thought Darius Carey should have been on the WR list on either the first or second team....

While I don't agree with everything on this list, I understand its a preseason list and I'm sure those names will change by the time the post season list comes out. Gotta give props to Seth Allison and Jestin Love though. Wish we had a whole team of them.

Has anyone noticed that the SLC is most likely gonna put some major players in the NFL on defense this upcoming draft? While I know some are undersized, it's hard to find defensive players with the field savvy that I've seen this past year from SHSU, UCA and SFA to name a few. We'll see I guess.

Not sure I agree with the first team selection for Bell or not, but I think he had a solid season in a run oriented attack and who else besides Attaway was their to choose from? After looking at some quick stats, i think it was a toss up.

Brian Bell
19-4 as a starter last two years
20td passes, 7 ints 2,069 yds in 2011, 58.8 %
ranked 10th nationally in passing efficiency

Brady Attaway
27tds, 22 ints, 3181 yds, 60.0%

Ranked 7th nationally in passing
Ranked 10th nationally in total offense
Ranked 62nd nationally in passing efficiency

Tyler Stroddard I think will be one of them as well. One of my Westlake boys doing good at Southeastern.

"2011: Earned a spot on the inaugural College Sports Journal All-Freshman Team after finishing the season eighth in the Southland Conference with a team-high 90 tackles (60 solo) … Also broke up five passes, was credited with five tackles for loss and had one interception … Moved into starting strong safety spot for the final eight games of the season … Had five games of double-digit tackles … Made a season-high 13 stops against McNeese State and Sam Houston State … Recorded 11 tackles in victories over Texas State and Nicholls State … Best all-around came at Stephen F. Austin, where he had 10 tackles – three for loss – and an interception … Also had tackles for loss versus Lamar and Northwestern State … Also credited with two pass breakups versus Sam Houston State and Nicholls State … Also broke up pass at Central Arkansas.

High School: Selected as the All-Southwest Louisiana and District 4-3A Defensive Most Valuable Player … posted 80 tackles with nine for loss as a senior at Westlake High … a first-team Class 3A All-State selection … a first-team All-Southwest Louisiana pick … had five games with 10 or more tackles … first-team All-District 4-3A at defensive back and tight end … two-time honorable mention All-District pick … coached by Max Calderera … a three-time All-District pick in baseball."

The OL from McNeese is a big boy. NFL in his future?

I look for Devan Walker to have a breakout year ... did a good job for as a DE but moving to outside LB should allow his true ability to show ... at 6-3, 245, he'll go from an average size FCS DE to a big LB with surprising speed and athleticism.

I also expect LT Gasten Gabriel to have a big year in our new offense ... played really well last year, but tough to get recognition for post-season awards when you finish 3-8 and don't run the ball much ... he's as good a OL as there is in the league and I think that will show this fall.

No doubt, assuming he comes close to his production as a true freshman ... we have a lot more depth in the secondary this year, and will play more ball control on offense, so may not get as many snaps. I would say the same thing about Ricky Irvin ... both good ballplayers and great kids who are fitting in well at Southeastern!

+1

If you were first team on the postseason all-SLC team and not a senior then you are first team on the preseason all-SLC team.

Flanders will play in the NFL. I agree with Taylor & Swanson as well.
