Re: The Southland Conference - July 1st and beyond

LionUpRadio (SLU Radio Network) Podcast No. 1 ... working the kinks out but hoping to be a weekly podcast with guests from opposing schools and/or national pundits. Will have a supplement this week with Hero Sports Sam Herder as a guest.

Also, Tom Rinaldi and the Fox Sports crew will be in town this afternoon to interview our defensive line coach, wait for it ... Tom Rinaldi. Should be interesting.

According to Zem, not a single person on the two deep chart played against Tarlington St. when we played them in that spring season except for the possiblity of on 1 linebacker who was listed as a backup back then.

MCNEESE TO LAUNCH POKECAST ON AUG. 30 AT MR. BILL'S

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese fans will be treated to something new beginning on August 30 with the debut of PokeCast, a weekly McNeese's coaches show and podcast that will broadcast live every Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. beginning Aug. 30 and running to May 30, at Mr. Bill's Seafood Express.

Sponsored by Mr. Bill's, Southwest Beverage, Keiland Construction and the McNeese Cowboy Club, PokeCast will be hosted by Jim Gazzolo and will feature coaches from the athletic teams that are in season.

"I'm excited about starting a coaches podcast this fall," said McNeese Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer. "It's been something I've wanted to do for quite some time and we finally have the manpower and the infrastructure in place to make it happen."

Airing live from Mr. Bill's, PokeCast will be an interactive event with fans in attendance who will be encouraged to ask questions to the guest coaches.

"This will be a great chance for our community and our fans to come out to a great venue and hear from our coaches each week," said Schroyer. "The ability for our fans to interact and ask questions to our coaches during the hour will no doubt be a hit with all our fans and listeners."

PokeCast will air live on 92.9 The Lake while the video aspect of the podcast will be posted on the McNeese Athletics website (McNeeseSports.com) and on the McNeese Sports YouTube Channel.

"This podcast is just another step forward for our athletic department and for the growth of the McNeese Athletic Foundation (MAF)," Schroyer commented. "I couldn't be more excited.

"I want to personally thank our four corporate sponsors of PokeCast – Southwest Beverage, Mr. Bill's, Keiland Construction and the Cowboy Club. They all share my vision for the future of MAF and McNeese Athletics."

As an added bonus, all Cowboy Club and MAF members who attend the live PokeCast show will be able to purchase draft beer for just $1.

"I can't wait to get started and see Poke Nation turn out for the first PokeCast on Wednesday, August 30 at Mr. Bill's. Geaux Pokes!"

Thanks! Good to hear Herder's take on things. I guess we may need to chop the SLC trophy in two and send half to SLU and half to UIW. Maybe UIW has an edge just because they get the Lions at home.
As for McNeese, I think an upgrade of talent has been brought in, but the guys are still shaking hands and introducing themselves to one another. A very young team with only four seniors and Saturday's starting lineup shows freshman starters!

Re: The Southland Conference - July 1st and beyond

It looks like it is going to be another long, disappointing season for McNeese. Does Goff know how to find a QB? Last season he brought in two duds, and it looks like he may have done the same, unless you call throwing at receivers feet a good thing. Air raid? More like air shelter! Hats off to Tarleton. They are a good team and should win their share of games this season. However, the McNeese defense was like Swiss cheese, and I have never seen such poor tackling by a Cowboy squad.

There were a few FCS vs. FBS games with the FBS team scoring 70+ points. McNeese plays the Florida Gators in the Swamp, and they are not happy after their loss and poor showing at Utah and will most likely take it out on the Cowboys.

The passing attack was my biggest disappointment last night. Tarleton was really big in the receiver and DB area but regardless, the Jon McCall show never showed up.
