Only one change on the Payton list while I took off several players on the Rice list, to trim it to 20, and then I made three changes on the Buchanan list.

Re: Payton, Buchanan, Rice Update- Nov 17

Here is how I project the top 5. I do want to point out that I still think Reid is one of the best in the nation and should be among top 3 defensive players I have seen but teams are scheming so much against him his numbers are too low for me to project he is in the top 5 for the Buchanan Award.

The Buchanan Award is down to Daly and Robertson unless Riddick really goes off again with another huge game and then I would put his name along with theirs. The problem for him is that he has not been on the official list and has really come on since mid-season. The other two have been doing it all year long. Riddick is a better NFL prospect than either of them though. Among my top 10 for the Buchanan Riddick, Hodges, Tull, Reid, and Trail are the best NFL talents so far.

    PAYTON TOP 5

    1. QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois, Sr.
    294-446, 4012 yards, 42 TDs, 8 INT, 65.9%, 169.0 pass eff., 364.7 yds/gm, 52 carries, 47 yards, 2 TDs in 11 games.

    2. QB Vernon Adams, Eastern Washington, Soph.
    227-337, 3602 yards, 41 TDs, 10 INT, 67.4%, 191.4 pass eff., 327.5 yds/gm, 95 carries, 467 yards, 4.9ypc, 4 TDs in 11 games.

    3. RB Terrance West, Towson, Jr.
    279 carries, 1765 yards, 6.3ypc, 27 TDs, 160.5 yds/gm, 15 catches, 155 yards, 10.3ypc, 1 TD in 11 games.

    4. QB John Robertson, Villanova, Soph.
    150-219, 1705 yards, 10 TDs, 6 INT, 68.5%, 143.5 pass eff., 170.5 yds/gm, 186 carries, 1240 yards, 6.7ypc, 19 TDs, 124.0 yds/gm in 10 games.

Even if he doesn't win they should make Brock Jensen a finalist for all the things you can't put down on paper.

I almost put him #5 and he may end up in top 5 because of his career. I could easily see him finish in the 3-5 range for it. He, Epperly, and Bennett have done some amazing things this year and deserve their names to be mentioned for sure.

That's just hometown bias. I can tell you that Jensen is not one of the top 3-4 physically gifted or next level QBs in FCS but he has a great team around him, doesn't make mistakes, is a great leader, and in FCS when you have all the talent he does with his decision making skills you are going to win a lot of games. Jensen is really good. I can see why you say what you do but you have to know that there are more gifted players out there. I'd love to see what Jeff Mathews and Brock Jensen do if you swap the talent around them.

4th and 3 with the season on the line against GSU. 8:30 drive in the 4th quarter against K State. Time and time again the kid performs. I'll take a winner over a Madden character any day.

SmallCollege has a point. Brock is a great fit for how NDSU runs its offense. I don't see him being as effective at EW let's say. That offense likes the pass, and as much as I love Brock he isn't consistent with his passing. Now one could argue that if he started with that team his throwing arm would be more accurate since the run isn't as prevalent. But I would say he is lucky to be in the running, but certainly should not win. He's great for the Bison, but overall there are better qb in the FCS.

Neck up vs. neck down. To me, it's no contest.
