Very expensive price tag for a new 25,000 seat football stadium. The school is opening an indoor facility this coming October and they are set to start a capital campaign to build a new on-campus field house (that could cost up to $6M).

When Tennessee State University alumni gather, as they did last month at their national meeting in San Antonio, one question inevitably arises: When will the football team return to The Hole?

The Hole, of course, is Hale Stadium, in the heart of the North Nashville campus. The stadium housed TSU football for nearly five decades before the school moved its games to the Titans' stadium in 1999. The fact that TSU could leave the aging Hale Stadium and play in the new one was used as a selling point for taxpayer support.

The old field once played host to undefeated seasons and future NFL stars in what became a championship football factory. But games at Hale were more than sports contests; they were a gathering spot and a source of school and community pride, one that pulled in generations from the surrounding neighborhood.
