Signed May 23 after Daven Holly blew out a knee, veteran Terry Cousin came to camp as the most likely nickel cornerback.

Heading into the preseason opener, Mike Adams — a second-string safety on the depth chart — is making a strong bid to be the No. 1 nickel.

Adams is showing the quickness to cover slot receivers, and he seems confident.

"I think I'm doing well," he said after Monday morning's practice. "I think I'm doing quite well.
