I had to go back and look at our attendance for each game in 2017 and found this:

    UCA HOME GAMES:

    -----------------
Looks like we went up in attendance from last year. That's always a good thing for the SLC.
2016 average home attendance= 7833. If you don't count the playoff game then we stand at 8766 for home games.
2017 average home attendance= 8550. If you don't count the playoff game then we stand at 9011 for home games.

Keep in mind our little stadium seats 9000 and that's with the luxury suites above Bear Hall.

Sucks to not have a whole facility for a season or 2. One of the more impressive feats of our AD (not that many to choose from...) was to coordinate the expansion of Bridgeforth Stadium to occur in the offseason after the '09 and '10 seasons. Demo on the west side began less than 24 hours after the last home in '09. '09 included the demo of the west side and construction of the lower reserved and club seats. They built the suites, finished the club seating, and added the west side's upper level and enclosed the north end zone after the '10 season. Stadium was ready for the 2011 opener.

And the on-field Dukes did their part by MISSING the playoffs both seasons!

The NCAA inclusion of playoff games for attendance is beyond ridiculous. First and foremost, it eliminates any kind of apples to apples comparison. Some teams play 5-6 games, others can play as many as 9. And furthermore, those playoff games occur with only a 5-6 days notice (with the actual game time announcement, often even less). The playoff games occur smack in the Thanksgiving-Xmas time period, so many people already have obligations. Thanksgiving weekend, holiday parties, office Xmas parties, school plays etc. all dilute from the fan base that usually attends games. Not to mention the inherent cold weather at that time of year. It's just a lazy way to calculate that stat....but we're FCS and the NCAA really doesn't care anyway.

It is interesting that JMU outdraws four entire conferences.

along with an 0-6 start and it rained before the Alcorn also, both those games could have drawn 40-50K

Unfortunately, our visitor side will be closed for almost the better part part of three seasons. In 16 it was mostly closed for lead paint issues. Only a small area was open. Then it was razed to the ground prior to the 17 season. Only used some temp bleachers this year. They also opened the beer tent on the site of the demolished visitor side this year. Some bouncy castles as well. Closed for 18 as well for construction. It better be open by 19.

The home playoff games helped the overall #, though not the average. Take those out and we drop to 11th on the list, outdrawing only the Big South and NEC. It's all about capacity -- only 8 stadiums across those 4 conferences have capacity >10,000. Nothing in the NEC exceeds 5,500.

    Avg. Capacity by conference

    Big South (6 schools) -- 8,550 (skewed by Liberty's 20K)
    NEC (7) -- 3,700
    Patriot (7) -- 12,200
    Pioneer (11) -- 7,500

    Bridgeforth's capacity is 24,877.
