CHARL
ESTON, S.C. – The Citadel unveiled a new space on the second floor of Seignious Hall recognizing Paul Maguire in a celebration featuring family and friends of the former Bulldog great as well as administrators and coaching staff.

The Paul Maguire recognition is in an area redesigned to allow The Citadel's football cadet-athletes space for studying and homework in addition to congregating around a vibrant display of Maguire's famed career on the gridiron and in the broadcast booth. The recognition was made possible through a gift from Brig. Gen. Harvey Schiller USAF (Ret.), one of Maguire's classmates and a 1960 graduate of The Citadel.

In 1959, Maguire led the NCAA with 11 touchdown receptions before embarking on an 11-year professional career. He was selected by the AFL's Los Angeles Chargers and spent four seasons as the team's punter, including his last three after the team moved to San Diego. He was traded to the Buffalo Bills prior to the 1964 season and played linebacker and punter for the final seven seasons of his playing career. Maguire played in six AFL Championship Games, won three championships and was the AFL's all-time leader in career punts and punt yardage.

Following his playing career, Maguire transitioned to the broadcast booth and thrived in his new role. He worked as a color commentator on national broadcasts of NFL games for NBC and ESPN and college football, the CFL and USFL for ESPN. His highlights in the booth include broadcasting two Super Bowls as part of the NBC crew that included Dick Enberg and Phil Simms and being part of ESPN's Sunday Night Football crew from 1998-2006. He then shifted to college football for ESPN and was part of a crew with Brad Nessler, Bob Griese and Bonnie Bernstein on ABC.
