NEC Week 11

Sacred Heart at Duquesne (-7)
Wagner (-4.5) at RMU
CCSU at St. Francis (-20.5)
Bryant at Coastal Carolina (-24.5)

All three NEC games are 12:00 noon kickoffs. Bryant’s game starts at 2:00 p.m.

  • Sacred Heart had the obvious let down last week after having their NEC title hopes dashed the week before by StFU. With the long road trip to Duquesne, I could easily see this as a double digit victory for the Dukes, who are still holding out hope for a playoff berth.
  • Wagner could easily be this week’s SHU. They lost a heartbreaker to Duquesne last week at home and will need help from SHU and CCSU the next few weeks to have any chance to share in the conference title. If RMU can get a defensive score, their defense is good enough to make this one interesting.
  • With a win this week, StFU will secure their first ever NEC Championship and their first ever appearance in the FCS playoffs. They are coming off a bye, which came at the right time, as their best player, Lorenzo Jerome missed the game at SHU two weeks ago and is listed as a probable starter for Saturday’s game. CCSU is coming off their first NEC win of the season, getting a late FG to upset SHU to win the battle of the Nutmeg state. They played Coastal Carolina tough a few weeks ago so this could be a closer game than most people expect.
  • Speaking of Coastal Carolina, they will play their second NEC opponent in the last four weeks as Bryant travels to Conway, SC this weekend. Coastal struggled a bit with CCSU back in October but are still a 24.5 point favorite. That line seems a bit high, although it all depends on which Bulldog team shows up - the one that defeated Wagner and gave Duquesne all they could handle or the one who got steam rolled at StFU earlier in the year.

Last week 2-1; Overall 35-14
