LORMAN, Ms - The Alcorn State University Braves' (7-3, 6-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) 56-3 victory over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (2-8, 2-6) earned them their second trip in a row to the 2016 SWAC Championship Game.*The Braves struck first on a 30-yard LENORRIS FOOTMAN touchdown pass to MARQUIS WARFORD in the first quarter to give them a 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, WARREN GATEWOOD picked off Alabama A&M quarterback, giving the Braves the momentum.*In the second quarter, Warford scored his second touchdown of the game on a 35-yard sprint to put the Braves up by 14. The Bulldogs got on the board with a 32-yard field goal, but their success was short-lived. A few possessions later, DARRYAN RAGSDALE found an opening in the Bulldog defense and raced for a 75-yard score, giving the Braves a 20-3 lead.Warford was at it again in the third quarter. On the Braves first possession of the quarter, he rushed for a 67-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 24. After another impressive showing by the Braves defense that forced a Bulldogs 3 and out, Footman rushed for a 3-yard touchdown to give the Braves a 34-3 lead. ARRON BAKER added to the Braves' rushing attack with a 3-yard touchdown score, giving them a 41-3 lead. After a 25-yard field goal by the Braves' HAIDEN MCCRANEY, De'Angelo Ballard rushed for a 13-yard touchdown for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter that made the score 44-10, which would be the game final.The Braves set a school record for rushing yards in a game with 500. Warford would finish the game with 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Braves will face their SWAC Eastern Division rival, the Jackson State University Tigers at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi next Saturday at 2 p.m. The following week, the Braves will compete against the Grambling State Tigers in the SWAC Championship Game at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
