Appalachian State practiced indoors in Boone, N.C. this week as its prepared for Georgia Southern in the midst of Hurricane Sandy's fury that dumped plenty of snow in the High Country. Today, however, the Mountaineers are being greeted by nice, warm sunshine (and probably a few sand gnats) as they get ready for a showdown between the two most prominent programs in the Southern Conference. Temperatures are suppose to be near 80 degrees.
Georgia Southern can wrap up its second straight Southern Conference title with a victory, while Appalachian State still has a shot at a share of the title and the league's automatic bid. The Mountaineers are also trying to win to stay off the bubble for an NCAA playoff berth.
Everything you need to make one of the greatest rivalries in FCS even better.
I'm getting ready to depart Savannah and head to storied Paulson Stadium and I look forward to sharing this game with all of the fans of AGS today. Feel free to post your comments and questions as we watch and blog on the play-by-play of the College Sports Journal game of the week.
