Georgia Southern Building For The Future

    http://savannahnow.com/sports/2012-0...uilding-future

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern continues to gain ground in the effort to break ground for a $10 million Football Operations Center at Paulson Stadium.

Is this the first step toward the Eagles move to the Football Bowl Subdivision level?

“Let’s put it this way,” GSU president Dr. Brooks Keel said. “Moving up requires stadium enhancement. We can’t even make a decision of whether we want to move up until we have the resources and facilities to handle everything else that goes with it.”

So the big picture at Georgia Southern really will focus on a series of progressions. A year ago, the school announced a plan to build a multi-purpose facility at Paulson taking care of virtually every football need. Keel said $5.1 million in cash pledges have been raised with another $5.9 million in outstanding proposals....

Re: Georgia Southern Building For The Future

So, I presume this new building in the East end zone, will compliment the Bishop Field house, already standing (since 2007) in the west end zone......

The {Bishop} Field House measures 13,600 total square feet and includes: new locker rooms, meeting and hospitality space. The home locker room can accommodate 90 players while the visitor locker room has room for 75 players.

So, once completed, GSU uses which field house, and the opponents the "opposite" field house?

Here's some views of the fieldhouse...as well as an extra rendering of expected future upgrades:

Visitors will use the same locker room in Bishop. The "new building" will house all football operations including offices, meeting, training, weight, and locker rooms. The top floor entrance will feature a Hall of Fame and the plaza from Lanier Drive will have a larger-than-life statue of Erk Russell in his GATA T-Shirt. Should be ready well ahead of the 2014 season.

Thanks, I was just curious as to why the newspaper article said the FB team still dressed in Hanner fieldhouse, when Bishop has been up and running for 5 years..

The team dresses there and rides school buses over to the stadium.

Looks great. I really hope we remain conference mates after both our schools' FBS transitions.

If the initial plan is $10 million, that means the final plans will be about $4 million. Better than nothing, though.
Six National Championships. All won via a playoff in the second highest level of football.
