Big enough news that NW St even posted this up on their web site. Congrats to Jermaine Jones. Four takeaways in any kind of football is really impressive...

DALLAS — Former Northwestern State All-American Jermaine Jones of the Arena Football League’s Dallas Desperados was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for Week 16 of the 2006 season.

Jones (5-9, 187), a safety who is in his fourth AFL season, became the only player in 2006 to record four takeaways in one game. He had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries in the Desperados’ 82-38 Eastern Division win over New York on Saturday. Jones added two total tackles, one forced fumble and one pass breakup.

Jones was the Southland Conference Player of the Year in 1998 as the Demons reached the Division I-AA playoff semifinals. The Morgan City-Central Catholic product was a consensus All-America selection and was runner-up for the Buck Buchanan Award for national defensive player of the year.

The Eastern Division Champion Desperados (13-3) will host a National Conference Divisional Round playoff game at American Airlines Center on Saturday, May 27 at 2:30 p.m., televised nationally on NBC.
