Re: Richmond to join the Patriot League in 2025

Given its lineage, the PL should be a marquee conference at this level. Holy Cross, Colgate and Richmond played at the highest level of college football into the the 1980s. Fordham and Georgetown...

Re: Richmond to join the Patriot League in 2025

There really isn't much difference between the overall quality of play in football between the PL and the CAA today. Holy Cross could have beaten most CAA teams the last 4 or so years as could have...

Re: Richmond to join the Patriot League in 2025

Institutionally, UR makes much more sense in the PL than the CAA.....as does Villanova. W&M being a state-school, makes their decision a little more complicated.

I like the addition of the Spiders...

    Re: 2027 Schedules

if you're a HC fan/alumnus from the 1960s, 70s or 80s. (pre-PL) you would much rather see HC play teams from that era (BC, Army, UMass etc) than pretty much any team in the current PL not named...

In my opinion, absolutely.....do you really think HC would rather play Bucknell and Georgetown rather than play say UMass and Dartmouth?

    There's just no way.....

This is a tremendous schedule for a team without a league currently. Good for Merrimack....sorry about taking your head coach.

Who knows in this evah changing musical chairs landscape....but I highly doubt HC leaves the PL. It's not a football or basketball thing but more of a PL branding that TPTB at HC seem to like about...

    Re: Delaware to CUSA

I don't see HC leaving the PL anytime soon. The school has become wedded to the league overall athletically for the most part.

The only way I could envision HC going back to the FBS-level is if...

I think if Villanova were evah to go to the PL as a football-affiliate, it might be soon.

The CAA has evolved into such a disparate group of schools today, Villanova has much more in common...

    Re: Delaware to CUSA

We really need to make Fordham (or someone else, Colgate?) a yearly end of the regular season game.

So many seasons since we dropped the BC series just seem to end with a whimper instead of a...

    Re: Patriot League Offseason Thread

Very early, but it looks the league could be very competitive this season, particularly amongst the top 4 teams from last year: Laffy, HC, Colgate and Fordham.

Actually I think the PL is in a good position to be a "wanna-be" Ivy these days.....we have much of what the Ivy has academically but can build on that by giving scholarships, play in the playoffs....

From most accounts, a tremendous recruiting class for HC this year. Was a bit worried with Ray-Bans headed to JMU, but it seems like Curran&staff kept and added a bit to this year's signing class. A...

Speaking for HC and BC....I think through 1950 and 1975, HC got most of the smartest kids from Catholic families/schools in the NE and NY/NJ area. BC was seen/perceived as more of a regional/Greater...

    Re: Patriot League Offseason Thread

I don't have any figures but anecdotally, I doubt HC has ever been below 40% Bay Staters ovah the years.

My uneducated guess is that was probably around 60-70% when my Dad graduated in 1950.
