I'm sold that Conklin can have Wofford be borderline top 25 Wofford. What he hasn't shown yet is that he can have them be top 10 Wofford. I wouldn't assume that for any coach until they actually do...

Obviously the game is huge for 2019, but I don't see a major impact beyond that. Future seasons will depend on how well the programs do with recruiting, developing, coaching, etc., just like always....
Sagarin has YSU 2 points ahead of UTC; SDSU won by 10 and Furman by 15. Roughly comparable results.
Furman has been fairly consistent on defense this year (and S/T) but pretty inconsistent on offense. Not sure how much of that was Grainger's inconsistency vs. the offense in general, but my feeling...
Sagarin has @Wofford as being a tougher game than home vs. Southern Illinois. So the latter part of your statement is at least arguable.
Wofford's offense was clearly not clicking early in the year - their showing in week 2 against Samford was even worse, considering how bad Samford is defensively. They've been putting up a lot of...
I would rank Wofford ahead of SC State because I think Wofford is the better team, despite the head-to-head outcome (not voting in AGS this year, so it's purely hypothetical). SC State lost at home...
Citadel is an absolute lock at 8-4, with a P5 win, 8 D-I wins, and wins over Furman and (in this scenario) Wofford. Massey gives them a 25% chance of pulling it off, so it's a very live scenario.

I would think a league could decline the auto-bid in a particular year? Not sure what the rules say about that, but it seems like FCS conferences can do essentially whatever they want when it comes...
Well, the rankings are not head-to-head rankings, they account for the entire season to date.
Rankings would be impossible if you relied heavily on head-to-head results (since Team A beats Team B...
Morgan St, NC Central, Del St., and Howard are significantly worse than any SoCon team. And SC State's win over Wofford is the conference's only real OOC win of any quality this year.
The top few...
Yeah, I find it very unlikely his contract will be extended. That's the thing, especially in FCS . . . contract status is a huge limiting factor in what schools can do. Since Mercer can move on...
I initially saw VMI - Mercer as a toss-up, maybe slight edge to Mercer . . . there's no question that the latter has the more talented and athletic team, top to bottom. But Mercer has not gotten...
VMI has definitely improved, but a big part of this is how down the SoCon is. VMI is a favorite in 2 of their 4 remaining conference games, in my opinion (WCU is straightforward, Mercer could be...
I think Quarles would be more of a factor with Tennessee programs (and I think he has been already). But he's certainly going to be on the radar around the SoCon at a minimum.
Drew Cronic, head coach of Lenior-Rhyne. Based on zero inside knowledge, pure speculation based on Cronic's strong Georgia ties, starting up NAIA Reinhardt, dominant offensive season as OC at Furman,...
I wouldn't go quite that far. I do think he's the favorite to take over for Lamb. Cronic's offensive chops are clear (he'd be the best play-caller in the conference without a doubt), but putting...
Some possibilities are a lot more likely/relevant than others. Massey actually gives Samford a 20% chance of running the table in the SoCon . . . of course they would only get the autobid if Furman...
1. Furman
2. Wofford
3. Samford
4. Chattanooga
5. VMI
6. Citadel
7. ETSU
8. Mercer
9. WCU
Lamb is a goner for sure . . . the silver lining is that he's a pretty solid recruiter, so a new coach could probably turn things around pretty quickly.
Isn't St. Johns just as dominant in that conference as St. Thomas? If the 'kicked out' thing was legit, it seems like St. Johns would get the boot too . . .
St. Thomas' 2017-18 teams had Massey...
1. Furman
2. Samford
3. The Citadel
4. Wofford
5. ETSU
6. UTC
7. Mercer
8. VMI
9. W Carolina
I think Lamb is pretty much finished at Mercer regardless of the Campbell game. They are stuck in mediocrity, an outcome that's not very surprising given his head coaching track record.

Pretty ugly game for Furman's offense. Hard to think Furman is more than a slight favorite at Samford, if even that.
I don't think Samford is particularly good, but the SoCon is so weak this year that they could easily put up a strong conference record. They already took down Wofford on the road and are solid...
