Nah.
NDSU had a LB core that could stop Abdullah in the title game. Look how that ended up.
Bryan Schor wasn't the difference maker. Abdullah took the pressure off of him.

GT11, has Trisciani ever coached a 4-man front or is beholden to the 3-man DL? Asking in case he comes to JMU with Cignetti. Our defense is absolutely stacked for next year -- would hate for them to have to adjust to a new system...

He ran 4-man fronts prior to coming to Nova. He worked under DC Billy Crocker who introduced the 30 defense to Nova. Trisch is a solid coach & better person. xpeacex

Understand Cignetti has hired 5 assistants, his S&C coach and his director of football ops; none have been named, but he did say he was NOT bringing his whole staff with him from Elon -- glad to see he didn't strip the cupboard bare down in N.C.

I fully understand that you are pleased with Cignetti, probably the best thing that could happen short of Houston staying. But it's pointless to try to paint a happy face on this for Elon. Cignetti will bring the assistants to JMU who want to leave and that he thinks will help him win. My guess is that will be most of them. There may be some who want to stay at Elon for personal reasons, but that is probably more risky then moving with Cignetti - the new Elon HC may arrive with much of his own staff pre-selected. It also presents Cignetti with the chance to get rid of some deadwood, if he thinks he has any. It's not the wrong thing to do, he owes loyalty to the coaches and staff who did a great job for him in the past.

I was thinking about it from the standpoint of more Elon coaches left, the more folks available to hold the recruiting class together as much as possible. With signing day on Wednesday, Elon is really hard-pressed to name a new HC. It's up to the staff left to get to those kids and keep them coming to EU.
On the down-side, if EU doesn't announce a hire this weekend, the new coach may be stuck with a recruiing class that may not align with his vision.
Throw on top of this the dead period and EU is in a big pickle if they don't promote from within.

No question it would be beneficial short term if some assistant coaches were there through the early singing period to have some continuity until someone else is hired to manage recruiting. I think one thing Elon has going for them is that they play a balanced offense so if they can retain their commits they will likely fit in what ever scheme comes next. They also have a lot of talent on that team, so it won't be like starting at zero in player development.
