I will give Wofford the benefit of the doubt but this does not sound good to me. My experience in Spartanburg says they need to keep it in house. I hope Richard Johnson knows this is a good decision.

If Conklin clears house and we end up with 5 or less wins next year I will be concerned, but there's no indication quite yet that that's on the table so I'll remain undecided on this hire until next year.
Sort of a strange hire if you ask me.
I don’t know Conklin or his capabilities, but he does seem like a guy that has already made a handful of stops the past 7 or 8 years. I also don’t see the benefit to Wofford to hire a young defensive coach when their already good defense is run by a young defensive coach. If you are going that route, why not just have hired your defensive coordinator?
How does Ayers retire after a long storied career and it least appears like Wofford wasn’t really sure who was going to replace him?
Confirmed: Conklin will be the next coach.
Terrier Diaspora seems to like this hire, I must be in the minority.
I think the fan base will always be encouaging for a new hire. Most Furman fans, I think, were optimistic about Bruce Fowler, who had a SEC defensive coordinator pedigree and ties to the school. He ended up not being particularly well suited for the head coaching position.
As far as retaining assistants, I imagine that is more of a financial calculation than whether Conklin wants to keep them. Wofford does not strike me as a place that’s going to buy out a bunch of assistants’ contracts.
And, again, he’s got to keep some semblance of stability with a short window until signing day. For that reason alone I think the recruiting coordinator (Wood, I think) has to stay on board.
Conklin was UT's safeties coach and he took the position under some trying circumstances (turned out to be Dooley's last year). At least the UT football team that year did not quit like they did this past season.
