There are no league championship trophies in Towson University's football awards case.

But after a 40-30 victory over Maine Saturday afternoon at Alfond Stadium in a first-place showdown, the Tigers control their own destiny and can clinch a share of the Colonial Athletic Association title and the league's automatic playoff bid with wins in their final two regular season games.

Playing in arguably the most important contest in the school's football history, Towson (7-2 overall, 5-1 in the CAA) showed none of the nerves you might expect from a program that has never reached such lofty heights before.

Started in 1969 and moved to Div.I 1987, as of 1989 whne we had an entire recruiting clas of D.I players we went 2-9, 2-8, 1-10, 5-5, 8-2 and 8-3... and into the abyss we went. Between 94 and when ever, we lost players like Chad Scott and Madewe Moore to Maryland. Had the progression been continued, instead of dropping scholarships, been made, who knows where we'd be by now. Thanks God we didn't choose BU or Hofstra and Northeasterns coourse. Slowly we are rebuilding. Our FR and So's are over exceeding our expectations.

With a tr FR RB with 21 TDs and an O-line consisting of 4 Sophs, better thing are still to come.

This iis not a down year in the CAA, it's a changing of the guard.
