View Full Version : Longest streak of making the FCS playoffs?

Since App's SoCon title streak is likely over after this past weekend's loss to Furman, I got to thinking whether App has the longest active streak of at least making the FCS playoffs. The current App streak stands at 6 and will almost assuredly be 7 by season's end.

Can anyone boast a longer active streak?

What is the all-time record streak?

New Hampshire is at 7 right now, more than likely 8 this season.

And of course, Montana had 17 straight before missing out last season.

I believe Montana has the all-time record which was snapped last season. Correct?

Ahh yes, the big fluffy, where Armanti came to retire. Was nice sending him off at Wa-Griz. ;)

Montana has the longest streak of all time but that ended last year... UNH has the longest active at 7

Lehigh is the only program to make the playoffs in every decade, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s.

Yes, UNH has the longest active streak at 7 and will likely extend it to 8 this year. SIU had a 7-year streak from 2003-2009 and Montana of course had their monster 17-year streak.

Yep, App is 3-0 vs Big Sky teams not named Montana, but 0-2 at Wa-Griz. It'll be nice to host the Griz for a change.

How many 1-AA (FCS) teams were there in '78 and '79?? I believe most of the currect FCS was still D-2 in those days...

The playoffs were only a 4 team tournament in the 70s, so still an achievement regardless of the total number of FCS teams. The 7 who made it were Massachusetts, Nevada, Florida A&M, EKU, Jackson State, Murray State and Lehigh. Nevada played in both tournaments. Only 4 of those teams were eligible for the FCS playoffs at the start of this season.

I think we're both looking forward to that! Will be a good excuse to go visit my sister in NC. :)
