It's sad that the selection committee uses this as one its polls.

Still the worst of all the polls and rankings. JMU ahead of a Maine team that beat them in Harrisonburg. Lehigh 6th...UNH 12th. Who won that matchup?

FargoBison
October 24th, 2011, 01:18 PM
Missouri State got 23 votes....What is going on? They just won their first game of the season last week vs Western Illinois.

Cal Poly is 4-3 and just beat a 4-3 UND on the road. UND is ranked at 25th and Cal Poly is not ranked. Explain that one to me.

TTU is not the 19th best team in the nation. No way. Top 19 offense, maybe, but, top 80 defense...

I wonder if Missouri State was getting votes meant for Montana State? I wonder if North Dakota is getting votes meant for NDSU as well. I wonder if Jacksonville is getting votes meant for Jacksonville State. I have more and more questions about this poll each week. Clearly there is nobody checking the ballots for accuracy and in a poll of just 28 voters a few mistakes can skew the poll.

I guess then Georgia Southern will drop four slots when Alabama beats them. BCS losses apparently do count some.

Where to start....

H2H winners
Alabama State (22) over Jackson St. (17) - Only ASU loss to FBS...
Maine (12) over JMU (10) - @ JMU and Maine only loss to FBS...
Illinois St (26) over Indiana State (18) - ISUr must be highly ranked for only dropping ISUb 2 spots...oh wait, they lost to an unranked team....
UNH (11) over Leigh (6) - close game and UNH has loss to somehow still ranked W&M on the road as its only blemish since then...

We could go on and on obviously but these are clear...we saw them on the field...

Please quantify how Lehigh has played better because all I see are weaker teams on their schedule (Liberty, Yale, Bucknell and Fordham) than UNH has played since their game at Goodman. I'd truly love to see how Lehigh would have fared playing at Richmond, Villanova (who beat Penn), at W&M (an absolute nemesis for UNH)and UMass on a neutral field. We'll soon see how Lehigh does with Holy Cross and we've already seen UMass win at Holy Cross. Having seen every UNH game in person this year, I'm not sure Lehigh could go through that same series of games better than UNH did.

Nice catch. Makes sense since I'm presuming 23 points would be a 3rd place vote, about where Montana State is ranked.

I think these "coaches" look more at records than who the teams actually played. They see 4-3 for UND and probably think 4 wins were DI where only 2 are DI.

I don't think that we would be ranked in the top ten in this poll even if we won the national title.

You're probably right. Maybe we can ask Delaware to wear their helmets for the rest of the season THEN there's no doubt we would rise to the top!

It's nice to see I'm not the only one noticing this. It's amazing how a coach filling out a poll at the FCS level can come up with so many mistakes. There is substantial FCS information all over the internet. My guess is this is actually the FCS Coaches' youngest daughter/granddaughter Poll. Alcorn State is 2-4 out of the SWAC and someone put them on their top 25 poll. North Dakota's best win was against a local high school team and they've been ranked as high as 18.

Coaches Poll? Who's voting, I doubt it's the coaches. The only teams they are AWARE of are the ones they have played, the ones they have yet to play, and their own team. They wouldn't give the job to any assistant coaches. They want tunnel vision for the team they play next. Perhaps the voter is the AD or the SID? But the AD probably knows less than the coach. Vote for your friends, or make friends. The Sports Information Director? He wants to make his schools opponents look good, make his school's schedule look more difficult.

Coaches Poll? Bah!

Lots of votes for eight different CAA schools but not a single vote for a 7-2 Patriot team that faces Lehigh for the conference title on 11/12.

My guess is this is actually the FCS Coaches' youngest daughter/granddaughter Poll.

The duty is usually regulated to the SID (Sports Information Director) at their university - see my post on page two of this thread to see the absolutely despicable panel of voters, and please shame them any chance you get!

Absolutely, and this pisses me off, as the Hoyas are one of my five favorite good-news teams this year (along with Maine, Towson, Portland State and Central Arkansas). (I've had the Hoyas in my poll the last two weeks - should be a great game vs. Lehigh).

why not post this in the 10/31/11 Coaches Poll instead of the thread from the previous week?

Probably like me and just assumed this was the most recent thread. Weird, that. Last week's poll was about as laughable as this one, to be fair. :)
