Western Illinois @ Youngstown St - If YSU wants to have any shot at the playoffs they have to win this game.
South Dakota St @ Missouri St - SDSU just seems like a defeated team right now. MSU at least has some semblance of momentum going into this game.
Illinois St @ Southern Illinois - The Redbirds ability to stop the run takes away the Salukis biggest (and maybe only) offensive weapon in this game and wins a low scoring slugfest.
Northern Iowa @ North Dakota St - The game I've had circled all season for NDSU, been looking forward to this one moreso than the Minnesota game. I think the Bison D contains Rennie on the ground but he gashes them a little through the air. UNI has to settle for FGs though and and constant pressure on Rennie forces a late turnover that ultimately dooms them. Bison 24, Panthers 16.

South Dakota @ Cal Poly - Poly goes into the drivers seat in the GWC race.

Guess it's a missed bag. Undefeated, perhaps the most accurate QB in the nation (that's shown, at least), number-one scoring defense in the nation, best cover-corner in the conference...take your pick. I guess home-field advantage, too, but we're not the softies a few UNI posters make us out to be.

I would say most educated posters are saying that these two teams appear to be evenly matched in both offense as well as defense. This leads one to believe that it will likely come down to the one who is at home with a good vocal crowd.

If they both get into the playoffs (which is likely so far) we can only hope that they will not be placed in the same bracket (which has been done to the MVFC so many 0times before)... xbangx

I am not a person that sees a soft team - I see essentially the same team twice, with variations at the edges.

QB - I would say this the most distinct difference is located. Jensen's arm is better than Rennie's. He can throw a more consistent long ball, and is more a pass first guy. However, Rennie 2010 and 2011 are so different I have a had time believing its the same player. Rennie's passing has markedly improved - he is about 72.4% completion rate in 5 MVFC games. Had an OK game against Iowa State and a horrific outing at SFA (9-25). Last year he was usually in mid to low 50% range. Knowing the playbook certainly shows up.

PK - a place UNI definitely improved over last year. Since graduated Billy Hallgren was kicking with 2 cracked vertebrae last year, and it showed. 15-25 with a long of 44, and 3 blocked kicks for the season. So far this year Sievertsen is 10-11, no blocks, with two kicks from 48 that could have made it from +/-55. From what I have heard, NDSU's kicker has the range, but there are concerns on accuracy. Don't know if that is overstating things, because from the stats, he looks comparable from inside the 40 at least.

I would suggest that it boils down to the UNI D-Line vs NDSU O-Line. NDSU's OL was shredded last year. Unless one of the coaches really deviates from their historical behavior (changing to a SIU blitz all of the time defense, etc), I suspect this will be the difference shows up. Everything else looks to be nearly even.

UNI (6-1) @ NDSU (7-0) -- Quite honestly I do not know how to call this game. NDSU at home will be a tough game for UNI to overcome if they make mistakes (which is likely). NDSU has had a couple of challengers so this season, but this will likely be the toughest game so far (for both teams). Toss up game, but give the home team advantage.

ISUr (5-3) @ SIU (2-5) -- This is a game the Salukis lost last year and will want to return the favor since Red is now sitting near the top of the MVFC. The game is in C-dale, but Red is hot (no pun) and has a decent defense. SIU also has a good defense (proven against NDSU and UNI). SIU is on a four game loosing streak, I have a hard time seeing it continuing (but if SIU does lose, SIU should be glad they won against MSU otherwise they wouls be at the bottom of the MVFC).

SDSU (2-6) @ MSU (1-7) -- I will stick with my original prediction even though SDSU has improved reently. MSU has a new found confidence, while SDSU has just had the tar beat out of them by NDSU. Still a toss up game, but I’ll go with the home field advantage where MSU pulls the mild upset.

WIU (2-5) @ YSU (4-3)-- Originally I had thought that WIU could win this game (which they could), but YSU has made some strides and will likely win this game at home.

ISUb (5-3) -- well deserved rest (preparing for NDSU and likely hoping that UNI is very physical with the Bison).

USD (5-3) @ CalPoly (4-3)-- USD has had some good games at home, but this one is on the road and will be difficult for them (home team wins).

Looks like my predictions for this week all home teams win.

Dont Hate, just Aprreciate !

I'd take it a step further and say NDSU's O vs. UNI's D. Our running game has been sketchy all season aside from Missouri State, and the o-line has been something of the reason. We had some changes in personnel and shifted some guys around prior to MSU and they handled the 3-4 better (though considering how the Bears are doing that doesn't say much) but then gave up 4 sacks vs. SDSU. I think Boothby is going to spend some time in our backfield but if we can utilize Smith (speedy slot WR) and Veldman (6'7 TE, great hands) I think we can go to a quicker passing game and can neutralize UNI's ability to pass-rush.

As a football fan I'm just jacked for this game. These are two of the best teams in the nation playing with a ton on the line. Really excited to see how Jensen handles probably the best defense we've played yet this season.
