Interesting. Valpo never did a Spring Game to bring their spring to an end and now they finally got one underway. How could you go through the spring and just close with a "quick scrimmage without contact". Glad someone got their act together! :)

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Spring game new tradition for Valpo

April 30, 2006

By Mike Hutton / Post-Tribune staff writer

VALPARAISO — For years —no one at Valparaiso University knows for sure how long —spring football practice has ended in solitude for the team.

Shoulder pads and shorts —and a quick scrimmage without contact — was the last call for the 80 or so players and Crusader coaches.

They’d say their goodbyes to each other and then meet in August with a vague sense of what they needed to work on over the summer.

That tradition ended Saturday in the first modern spring game at Valpo.

About 200 parents, students and fans watched through a slight drizzle at Brown Field in the White team’s 27-14 victory over the Brown team.

The PFL changed its policy this year allowing full contact in the Spring for the first time ever.... Dayton had its first Spring scrimmage in 30 years.... By the way, the Defense won Dayton's scrimmage. Hopefully a god sign for our game with San Diego, at San Diego this season.
