Interesting...where the SoCon's game would normally be, is now inhabited by a C-USA/SEC game (Mississippi State at UAB)...more proof of the fact that the SoCon had no chance in hell of keeping that spot...SportSouth jacked the price (more than double) to telecast games because they wanted themselves rid of the SoCon. And honestly, I don't blame them, they are a business and if they can make more money, more power to them. Sucks for the SoCon though. Exciting matchup (cough)...3-0 UAB in the 3rd

Yeah, I was thinking this and getting pretty hopeful watching the game. But, it's tough to plan all week to tee off on a nonmobile QB with a weak offensive line... and then have to be confronted with a mobile QB all of a sudden. Tough transition in the middle of the game.

The 2 point conversion percentage is usually well under 50%, and well under the red zone scoring percentage, which is basically what overtime is. A two point conversion to win or lose is too risky, and just not smart statistically.

I fully expected Huesman to go for 2 today. Chatt had the momentum and we were on our heels. Robinson certainly gave them a lift in the 2nd half.

I wouldn't throw dirt on the Eagles however. In many of the years we won championships there were games like today-- game we could have lost but found a way to win them. Face it-- few teams will go through a year and win every game with none of them being nail-biters.

Chatt did not exactly throttle us today either. Granted we only scored 1 TD in the 2nd half but our running game piled up alot yards today.

Chatt-- Yes they are improved but they still are losing. The games are much more competitive than in years past but they still are losing. Good teams find ways to win these close games.

Technically, So. Graham Nichols is the back-up...and he did play a series.

And red-shirting this year is Jacob Huesman...who style is very similar to Terrell Robinson's...so no matter who starts next year, you are going to see an offense that is geared much more like what you saw today.

(on a side note: Terrell Robinson was a huge "get" for the Mocs, in Huesman's first recruiting class, he got TR signed up early and then fended off a bunch of FBS teams like Vandy...TR is the son of former Mocs basketball player Vincent "the Cat" Robinson, who was a good forward in the Mocs early 80's heyday...and, of course, Jacob is the coaches son...both players were Tennessee Mr Football winners)

I completely get what you are saying and said the same things on Mocfans...TR might has well been a ghost until the 2nd quarter, because up until then, he literally didn't exist on film. No way to prepare for someone you have never seen (and someone who plays a completely different style than Coleman).

That being said...the kid is good he completely turned the tables on what has been the Mocs biggest weakness (inexperienced OLine).

Just gives us something to work on. Outside of practice, this was the first time all season we had a team even remotely try to run the ball on us. They did a pretty good job in the second half aided by Robinson's mobility.

We have the same players on the field that we had in the playoffs @ Wofford last season, with the exception of EJ Webb (who didn't play that game) and now Derek Heyden. The other big difference is we have a new DC ... who favors a lot of the same style that former DC Brent Pry had ... but still is finding his way a little bit.

Two ways of spinning this ... Entering the game, GSU was allowing 234.2 yards per game through the air, worst in the conference.

We held UTC to just 87 yards. They were averaging 225.5 yards per game.

UTC football has gone through the loss of scholarships (9 i think it was) and practice restrictions (16 hours a week) for the last 2 years. The incoming class is the first with 63 scholarships under Huesman..they brought in 19 and have RS most--he has done that to the extent possible all 3 classes. Mocs return 7, maybe 8 on defense. Monken on 2pt conversion

Were you surprised they went for two?
"Not at all, they were playing to win. During that drive I turned to Brent Davis and said, "If they score a touchdown, they're going to go for two and we might have to go down the field and kick a field goal to win the game." I'm surprised they sent the field goal team out there, but not surprised when they called timeout. I fully assumed they would go for two."

Coach, talk about that two-point conversion
"We got a great jump on that play and Josh Rowe got there first and thankfully we were able to get some pressure on them and he wasn't able to find anyone."

I'm not surprised they went for 2 either. They did it in their loss against App last year and didn't learn a darn thing. They clearly have a good team even with the losses but as long as Huseman goes with his gut instead of using his head...they're going to lose games they should win.
