UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior wide receiver Danny Desriveaux was selected as the 43rd overall pick in last week's Canadian Football League Draft by the Montreal Alouettes. Desriveaux, who came to Richmond after playing two seasons at Connecticut, ranked third among the Spider receivers in 2005. The way that the CFL works is that they can draft only native Canadians that have four years of college under their belt. I am guessing that the player from Richmond that got drafted was red shirted his freshman year, therefore allowing him to complete four years of college after his junior year, making him eligible to be drafted into the CFL, this does not restrict his ability to enter the NFL after his senior. Now that he got drafted Montreal they own his rights as far as the CFL goes. He can stay in school and finish his Richmond career, or he can graduate in a couple weeks and go to Monteal and play. If he chooses to stay, which is probably 100% likely that he will, he is assured to have an invite to a Montreals camp if the retain his rights when his senior season is over. It is a great situation for him because he knows he atleast has a shot to play somewhere when he is done playing college ball.
