GSU Eagles Hold Top Spot For Fourth Straight Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a 41-14 victory over conference foe Elon, Georgia Southern holds the top spot in the FCS Coaches Poll the fourth straight week. The Eagles, along with North Dakota State and Sam Houston State are the only teams in the Top 25 to remain undefeated as all three teams are 4-0.

Northern Iowa, which picked up a 42-7 road win at Missouri State, also maintains its ranking at No. 2 for the fourth straight week. The Panthers received two first-place votes.

Wofford and North Dakota State were tied for the No. 6 spot last week, and both break into the Top 5 this week. Wofford defeated then No.3 Appalachian State, 28-14, while North Dakota State picked up a 20-10 win over Illinois State.

Appalachian State dropped five spots to No. 8, following their loss on the road at Wofford. Delaware, Richmond and Chattanooga all fell six spots following losses this weekend.

Lehigh, Indiana State and North Dakota all jumped four spots this week. Lehigh cracked the Top 10 following the Mountain Hawks 37-7 win over Yale. Indiana State and North Dakota also picked up wins this weekend to finish in the No. 19 and 20 spots, respectively.

Entering the Top 25 this week are Tennessee Tech, Coastal Carolina and Jackson State. Tennessee Tech narrowly defeated Tennessee-Martin, 34-31 to earn the No. 21 spot in this week’s poll.

Massachusetts, South Carolina State, Stephen F. Austin and Sacramento State all fell from the Top 25 this week.

Ten conferences are represented in this week’s coaches’ poll. The Colonial Athletic Association leads the way with five teams, followed by the Southern Conference and Missouri Valley Conference with four ranked teams each. The Great West is represented with three teams this week. The Big Sky, Ohio Valley and Southland all have two ranked teams. The Big South and Southwest Athletic Conference both have one team in this week’s Top 25.

The FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.

Not unusual for the Coaches Poll....the coaches don't vote. They delegate that to their numbnuts in the office.

I don't follow FBS like FCS. Is the FBS coaches poll this bad usually?

Agree. I have to laugh to not cry. :)

No, it's not nearly as bad - but just merely having twice as many voters helps even out the noise quite a bit. If you look at the AP vs. Coaches' poll, you'll rarely see teams in the top 20 differing by more than a few spots, but the ORVs do tend to be odd (e.g., North Carolina, Duke and Ohio State getting vote in the coaches' poll but not the AP this week) - but the numbers are so low relatively that it can be just noise.

No Furman? Not even in the, "others receiving votes?" I mean wow. They lost their first game and have had a pretty good showing since...Elon just got blown out of the water and they still received votes...

I was thinking the same thing. We received some votes last week, proceed to beat the snot out of WCU, and then receive NO votes?? Weird.

You must be thinking of the TSN poll, the Paladins haven't gotten any coach poll votes. After all I'm sure we'd get dominated by Butler.

Not weird at all for this poll.

This poll needs to be gotten rid of or about 40-50 more coaches need to be invited to vote.

Well at least they got Coastal Carolina right. Not sure how the heck they ranked Jackson State and left out Alabama State though. The hornets have beaten the Tigers two years in a row.

I'm guessing the Jackson State and Jacksonville votes are mistakes for Jacksonville State?

That's how much they value the Citadel I guess. The teams the beat us have nothing to show really and the ones we beat are getting votes. Can't make sense of this.

No, Jackson State is having a good season on their own merits. They are 4 - 1. But I believe they saw JSU on ESPNU last week and forgot that Alabama State beat them. Alabama State only has 4 votes while JSU has 49. That doesn't make any sense.

And I doubt seriously that many of these coaches are spending their time pouring over stats for teams and conferences they have no chance of playing. I think it's a chance to plug your own team and on occasion, intentionally vote against a particular team. Of course they all know who the front runners are and will throw a bone that direction to appear honest. Really, I just don't believe the coaches really care about this poll.

NDSU coach Bohl seems to care. He used to vote a couple years ago, (they must rotate or something) and after NDSU dropped 6 places after a bye in week 3, he called the voters out, and said they should show how they voted.

I love my Jackrabbits. However, I don't understand anyone who could actually give us votes. We beat Southern Utah. That is it. Southern Utah is good, but since then we have gotten curb stomped each time out. State needs to win out to reclaim their season--considering we still have to play NDSU and UNI, I see 5-6 as the best case scenario. Worst case scenario? 1-10. Ohhh that playoff season seems far far away. Needless to say, this team receiving votes is just preposterous.

Love ya Rabbits.

This poll is a joke. Maine soundly defeats the #5 team, has one respectable loss at Pittsburgh, plays in the toughest conference and can't crack the top 25?
Sagarin has Maine 8th in FCS.
