One of the big head coaching moves during the offseason was Norries Wilson going to Columbia. Wilson has been getting a great deal of nation attention as he's the Ivy League's first African-American head football coach. He'll have the troops out on the field today for their Spring Game.

Columbia has had a rough go the last few years. They were 7-23 the last three years which included a 4-17 mark in Ivy League play under their previous head coach, Bop Shoop. Last year was a rough ending as Columbia finished 0-8 after a quick 2-0 start. Lots of eyes will be on Wilson and his team, here's wishing them the best of luck!

Head Coach Norries Wilson Notes Progress in Lions' Play
April 20, 2006

NEW YORK - While pleased with his team's progress, first-year head coach Norries Wilson makes it amply clear that no one on Columbia's football team has a starting job set in stone.

"There isn't anyone on the team who can sit back and come back in August and think that they're going to have a spot," Wilson says. "They better come back here ripping and ready to go."

A productive spring season comes to a close on Saturday, April 22, as Columbia plays its intrasquad Blue and White game at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium at 4 p.m.

Perhaps to emphasize the notion that there is not necessarily a "first team" and a "second team" at this stage, this Saturday's contest will feature the Lions split in half with two teams drafted by the senior class.
